Job Description

Stepan Co. is seeking a dynamic, experienced Commercial Paralegal to join our Legal team. In this critical role, you will collaborate with and support the Legal team on various commercial and general corporate matters, including managing the full lifecycle of our contracts.  As part of our global chemical company, you will work closely with the Legal team and across all levels of the organization.
Job Responsibilities
• Manage and assign contracts in our CLM system and provide key input on improving CLM functions alongside of our attorneys and other paralegals.
• Review NDAs and other commercial agreements with oversight from our attorneys.
• Serve as the first stop on contracting questions across the organization.
• Quickly identify issues for attorney and business review, as needed.
• Assist in the development of, and help maintain, contract templates and a playbook database, regularly reviewing the same with our attorneys for improvement.
• Provide general support to the Legal team, including outside counsel billing, and assist with special projects as needed. 
• Facilitate cross-functional relationships among the Legal team and other functions, including Procurement, Commercial, Sales, R&D, etc.
• Assist with the preparation of presentations and other project trackers for the Legal group.
• Manage corporate records and assist the Legal team on corporate and commercial transactions.

Qualifications

• A minimum of five years of relevant experience in a law firm or corporate legal department. Prior in-house experience with a manufacturing or chemical company preferred.
• Experience with contracting issues, including the review of standard agreements, handling templates and playbooks, working in a CLM system, and understanding key issues that require attorney review and input.
• Ability to handle multiple matters and maintain discretion and confidentiality.
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with various stakeholders across multiple teams.
• Comfortable with identifying, assessing, and escalating issues, as needed.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills with attention to detail.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Bachelor’s degree and a Paralegal Certificate from an ABA-accredited program, preferred.
