Position Summary: This Pro Bono Attorney will work on a variety of civil, criminal and family law litigation matters, including matters specifically designed or intended to address systems that are structurally racially unjust.
Essentials Duties and Responsibilities:Support the Head of Litigation and the Head of Racial Justice Pro Bono on high-priority pro bono mattersCoordinate and supervise attorney teams working on litigation pro bono mattersWork with legal service organizations to identify appropriate pro bono clients, matters, and training opportunitiesWork with legal service organizations to help build and manage clinic programsSupport the professional development of associates, including by developing content for and facilitating training programs and helping individual attorneys build their litigation skillsWork with other members of the Pro Bono group to promote pro bono engagement and participation across offices and practice groupsContribute to internal and external informational publicationsDevelop projects for Washington, D.C. and Northern California officesDevelop projects for non-legal staff to participate in litigation and racial justice initiativesTrack progress and outcomes on litigation and racial justice matters across offices and practice groups Qualifications/ Position Requirements:Substantial experience as a practicing litigator in a law firm, nonprofit, government, or legal services settingExperience working with and/or supervising attorneysExcellent interpersonal and client service skillsCompelling writer, oral advocate, and communicatorDemonstrated ability to effectively work as part of a diverse teamExcellent professional judgment, problem-solving skills and initiativeStrong data and technology skills Education and/ or Experience:Bachelor’s degree and JD required7-15 years experience practicing as a litigatorAdmitted and in good standing in New York StateSignificant in-court experience through trials and/or hearingsDemonstrated commitment to remedying racial injusticeDemonstrated experience in supervision of attorneys Compensation: The expected base salary for this position ranges from $225,000-280,000. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors, including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and, where applicable, licensure or certifications obtained.
