You must be able to work daily with our team while doing any other activities until we close our funding after which you must agree to become a permanent member of the Lif3away team in San Francisco.

We are on a mission to revolutionize the market by introducing leading edge technology as a platform versus a marketplace. Soon to be backed by investors in our current funding round, we’re growing fast and looking for a strategic, business-minded legal expert to help guide us through our growth and take us into the future.
Role Overview As Chief Legal Office and General Counsel, you’ll be the second in-house legal hire, responsible for setting the legal direction and validation of the goals and objectives of the company. You’ll work closely with the COO and CEO while advising the executive team as a whole on any legal guidance and matters from contracts, relationships, investments, branding, patent filings and more that will help manage and reduce risk while helping to scale the company by building legal infrastructure that supports growth, compliance, and innovation.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the company’s primary legal advisor across all business functions.
- Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, including commercial agreements, NDAs, SaaS
agreements, partnership deals, employment contracts, and investor documents.
- Advise on fundraising, cap table management, and corporate governance.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory frameworks applicable to our industry (e.g., data
privacy laws, financial regulations, employment law).
- Review company policies and procedures for proper legal definition and compliance.
- Lead on IP strategy, including trademarks, patents, and licensing.
- Develop and implement scalable legal processes and policies.
- Manage the existing executive legal assistant.
- Manage external legal counsel if and when needed and fiscally appropriate.
- Provide counsel to leadership on legal risks, opportunities, and best practices.
Qualifications
- J.D. from an accredited law school; licensed to practice law in California as a minimum.
- 7+ years of legal experience, with at least 2 years in-house (startup experience highly
preferred).
- Strong background in corporate, commercial, and regulatory law.
- Experience working with venture-backed companies, fundraising, and board governance.
- Clear communicator with a pragmatic, solution-oriented mindset.
- Comfortable wearing multiple hats in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment.
- Comfortable being part of an EQUITY ONLY position until the initial funding round is
closed.
Nice to Have
- Experience with international legal matters.
- Background in Real Estate and Rental Property law or relevant regulatory knowledge.
- Previous experience scaling a legal function from scratch.
- Strong leadership experience and capability to guide, mentor, and grow our legal
assistant.
- Experience in an Early Stage, Pre-Seed, Seed, Series A startup.
- Experience in the high growth SaaS based software solution company.
