Norm Ai is the Compliance AI Platform for legal standards-based reasoning & workflow automation.

We developed the first Domain Specific Language (DSL) for fully representing regulatory requirements in AI code. This DSL, deployed with our enterprise platform, enables Norm clients to transform workflows and apply compliance checks at the source of business activities.

We are setting the norms for compliance processes at the largest institutions in the world. Our client base includes firms with a combined $17 Trillion in AUM, and growing quickly.

Our Software Engineers came from Palantir, Google, Meta, AWS, Harvard, Stanford, and MIT. Our Legal Engineers are from Harvard Law, Stanford Law, Yale Law, Sullivan & Cromwell, Simpson Thacher, Davis Polk, Greenberg Traurig, the SEC, and FINRA.

This Role

As Counsel at Norm AI, you will be responsible for managing the legal functions critical to our business, ensuring we operate effectively within legal frameworks while enabling growth. This includes drafting and negotiating key contracts, overseeing compliance with relevant regulations, and advising on emerging AI-related legal challenges. You will work cross-functionally to align legal priorities with business objectives, providing clear and actionable guidance. You will ensure that Norm operates effectively within the boundaries of evolving legal and regulatory frameworks while supporting its business objectives.

This is a highly collaborative role that requires a proactive, detail-oriented lawyer with strong transactional experience, a background in technology, and an understanding of AI-related legal and regulatory landscapes. You’ll play a key role in enabling Norm AI to scale responsibly while maintaining trust with clients and stakeholders.

This is a hybrid role based in our NYC office, at 7 WTC.

Responsibilities

• Commercial Contracts: Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of agreements, including NDAs, vendor contracts, and Statements of Work.
• Legal Operations: Develop and manage processes for tracking and meeting contractual commitments, ensuring timely execution and compliance.
• Data Privacy & Compliance: Provide guidance on global AI & data privacy laws and ensure compliance with evolving regulations.
• Risk Management: Identify and mitigate legal risks while aligning legal solutions with business goals.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with internal teams to address legal questions and align on strategies that support company goals.
• AI Legal Landscape: Monitor developments in AI-related legal and regulatory frameworks and provide strategic insights to help Norm navigate emerging challenges.
• Process Improvement: Create and implement tools and workflows to streamline legal operations and improve efficiency across the organization.

Skills & Experience - Core

• J.D. from a leading law school and active membership in a U.S. state bar, ideally NY
• 4-7 years of transactional legal experience at a leading law firm.
• Experience working with AI technology and advising on AI related legal or regulatory issues, either as outside counsel or at an AI company.
• Expertise in drafting and negotiating complex SaaS MSAs and drafting Statements of Work.
• Strong familiarity with global data privacy laws (e.g., GDPR, CCPA) and their application in a technology context.
• Excellent organizational and communication skills, with the ability to prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Skills & Experience - Pluses

• Prior in-house experience at a technology company.
• Experience supporting highly regulated industries (e.g., financial services, insurance).Background in developing and scaling legal operations within a growing organization.

$200,000 - $250,000 a year

Plus equity.

Independently manage commercial agreements and contractual workflows.

Begin advising on AI-related regulatory issues and their impact on business operations.

Operate as Norm AI’s primary legal advisor, managing all legal functions with minimal oversight.

Implement scalable processes for contract management and compliance tracking.

Provide proactive insights on emerging legal and regulatory challenges, shaping company strategy.
