Title : Litigation Assistant
Salary: $70,000 – $90,000
Schedule: Hybrid (4 days onsite, remote Fridays)
Our client, a stable and growing Chicago-based law firm , is seeking an experienced Litigation Legal Assistant to join its collaborative Litigation and Dispute Resolution practice group. Responsibilities Include:
- Handle e-filings in Illinois State and Federal courts , including Cook, McHenry, and Lake Counties
- Draft, redline, edit, and proofread a wide range of litigation documents, including pleadings, subpoenas, summonses, notices , courtesy copies , Tables of Contents, and Tables of Authorities
- Provide support throughout all phases of litigation with a strong emphasis on pre-trial preparation
- Assist with discovery, document production, and subpoena management
- Prepare, manage, and track subpoenas
- Maintain and organize client files within the firm’s document management system
- Manage attorney calendars, organize meetings, and coordinate travel as needed
- Track billable hours, review proformas, and assist with billing processes
- Conduct conflict checks, prepare engagement letters, and assist with opening and closing matters
- Provide team support during peak periods to ensure smooth workflow and collaboration
Requirements:
- Minimum 3+ years of litigation legal assistant experience within a law firm environment supporting 4–6 attorneys
- Prior hands-on experience filing in Illinois courts, particularly Cook, McHenry, and Lake Counties
- Strong experience with pre-trial support, discovery, document production, and subpoena processes
- Ability to effectively support multiple attorneys in a fast-paced legal environment while managing competing priorities
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office and PDF editing tools
- Experience with legal technology platforms such as NetDocuments, LexisNexis, SurePoint, and AI-based tools is a strong advantage
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
- Calm, professional demeanor with a client-first mindset
- Strong attention to detail and ability to self-review work product for accuracy
- Ability to maintain absolute discretion and confidentiality while handling sensitive information
- Domestic relations experience is a plus , but not required
This is a Legal Assistant position and not a Paralegal role. There should be no expectation of receiving a Paralegal title.
