We are seeking a Product Counsel to join our Legal and Compliance Product and Commercial team in either our San Francisco or New York office. We are growing our product counseling team to meet the expanding needs of our company and our customers. You will be advising and working collaboratively with our product, engineering, business, and marketing teams to support our emerging business.

Here’s what you’ll do day-to-day:

  • Navigate complex regulatory frameworks, within the U.S. and abroad, to design innovative products and services.
  • Guide product, engineering, and business teams on complying with U.S. and international data privacy laws.
  • Counsel the product, engineering, and design teams on a range of issues including payments, financial services, data privacy, international data transfer, employment/tax, and marketing.
  • Partner with marketing and content teams to ensure our small-business guidance is consistent with applicable laws and regulations and industry best practices.
  • Look around corners and creatively solve problems for the business as they plan, build, and execute on their product roadmap.

Here’s what we’re looking for:

  • JD degree with 5+ years of combined relevant legal experience in a law firm, government, and/or an in-house legal department with a technology company.
  • State bar/ active license to practice law in California or New York or eligibility to waive into the state bar or register as in-house counsel.
  • Broad legal knowledge that enables you to spot and resolve a variety of legal issues across multiple jurisdictions within the U.S. and abroad (e.g., payments, regulatory, commercial, IP).
  • Experience enabling the launches of innovative, highly regulated, and/or global products.
  • Experience providing pragmatic, business-oriented and consumer-centric guidance related to global data privacy laws, including GDPR
  • Experience counseling on fin-tech products, with specific experience enabling international expansion.
  • Experience creatively solving problems, taking into account legal risk and business needs.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to follow through in a fast-paced environment.
  • A team player mindset (no job is too big or too small).
  • A collaborative approach and demonstrated ability to work well under pressure, cross-functionally, and independently.

Our cash compensation amount for this role is targeted at $149,000-$172,000 in Denver & most remote locations, and $170,000-$197,000 for San Francisco & New York. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors including candidate experience and expertise and may vary from the amounts listed above.
