Paralegal – Real Estate

General Summary :
As part of Legal/Real Estate, support the Company’s existing and growing portfolio of stores and the Real Estate Portfolio Management team by drafting, negotiating and managing lease documentation, including lease amendments, renewals and extensions, terminations, and ancillary real estate agreements. The Real Estate Paralegal prepares drafts of various real estate documents based on deals presented by the Real Estate Portfolio Management Team and under the direction of attorneys. In addition, the Real Estate Paralegal negotiates with landlords and developers, communicates with internal departments of real estate, lease administration, and operations, and tracks the status of all assigned deals. This role is responsible for embracing Family Dollar's store-centric commitment to customers, customer service and sales.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities :
1. Prepare initial drafts of real estate related documents, including lease amendments, easements, and other documents using existing templates. This includes: (1) reviewing and assimilating site information; (2) determining relevant legal issues and facts; and (3) coordinating the preparation of document exhibits. Coordinate execution and notarization of high volume of documents under strict time constraint deadlines.

2. Work with supervising attorney to handle eminent domain matters, including related documents such as easements and amendments, and ensure that critical dates are met;

3. Provide updates and reports on current projects to Real Estate team, Company Counsel, Director of Real Estate, and Lease Administration.
4. Research property ownership, prepare documentation for erecording in public records, submit and track status of documents.

5. Assists Counsel in Foreclosure/ Bankruptcy research, notifications and correspondence.

6. Other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements :
Education: Four-year college degree, paralegal certificate or equivalent experience preferred.

Experience :
3 or more years of real estate or other equivalent experience. Proven track record in priority setting and managing multiple tasks with attorney supervision. High attention to detail, strong work ethic and the ability to work in a fast paced environment.

Computer Skills :
Intermediate MS Word, PowerPoint and Excel skills.
