Job Description

Wayfair seeks a highly motivated and entrepreneurial attorney to serve as Legal Counsel, Products and Retail. The right candidate will be an integral part of our small legal team with broad responsibilities. This attorney will provide legal guidance to support retailing Wayfair’s vast catalog of 23 million+ products and will be focused on developing scalable and pragmatic policies that provide the best customer experience. This is a chance to make a real and visible impact on the success of Wayfair’s most complex initiatives.     

A successful candidate will have a strong background in consumer products law, and must be proactive, entrepreneurial and able to build consensus across a broad set of cross-functional stakeholders.

What You'll Do

  • Work closely with our Merchandising and Category Management teams responsible for sourcing products and suppliers from around the world. 
  • Provide practical legal risk mitigation strategies associated with retailing consumer products globally, including but not limited to: regulatory consumer product compliance and safety, advertisements and promotions, consumer protection and supply chain compliance. Additionally, you will serve as lead counsel on product compliance matters with external regulators.
  • Develop strategies for handling complex, high-visibility problems in creative, business-centric ways; leverage resources and technology to build processes that address regulatory risk and consumer product safety at scale. 
  • Play a leadership role in our organization; driving change, mentoring and coaching others, fostering inclusivity and influencing the broader business.

What You'll Need

  • 3-5+ years of experience in counseling clients, companies or regulatory agencies. Experience in matters involving consumer products, retail, e-commerce, or sustainability is a strong plus.
  • J.D. with top academic credentials and membership with at least one state bar.
  • Excellent analytical, writing and communication skills. Willingness to master new and unfamiliar areas of practice.
  • Highly effective, business-friendly and persuasive communication skills; excellent negotiation and relationship-building skills. Embraces challenging situations with a solution-oriented mindset; able to quickly build trust with stakeholders.
  • Self-motivated to seek out challenges and tenacious in pursuit of excellent outcomes; willing to roll-up sleeves, pitch-in and tackle problems of all shapes and sizes.
