GEICO’s Government and Regulatory Affairs team is looking for an experienced Federal Government Relations associate to join our team to advance the Company’s federal legislative and regulatory agenda. The individual will be responsible for building relationships and interacting with key third parties, including public officials, industry associations and other non-governmental organizations, and managing GEICO’s political giving, including our Political Action Committee (GEICOPAC).  

 

Primary Responsibilities: 

  • Build and maintain relationships with key policymakers, including members of Congress, key executive branch officials, industry members, and industry trade associations to efficiently and effectively advocate GEICO’s positions at federal level. 

  • Position and leverage the company’s influence on key issues at federal level.

  • Quickly and accurately understand Federal legislative and regulatory proposals and their potential impacts to succinctly advise business.

  • Work with business to develop policy positions, strategy, responses/draft language; prepare for legislative and regulatory interactions; and support company’s strategic initiatives.

  • Maximize trade association and coalitions to further GEICO’s agenda.

  • Develop and execute strategies in consultation with business to effectively and efficiently utilize GEICOPAC to further GEICO’s policy initiatives.

  • Ensure GEICO’s political giving, including the PAC, is administered and managed in accordance with all applicable election law and regulations and internal policies.

 

Basic Qualifications: 

  • Minimum 5 years relevant federal government affairs experience.  PAC management experience a must.

  • Property/casualty insurance experience with knowledge of auto insurance issues, laws and regulations preferred.

  • Strong verbal and written communication and presentation skills tailored to different audiences, including internal executive communications and external policymakers and regulators.

  • Ability to articulate the organization’s positions in an impactful and persuasive manner to decision makers and industry leaders and offer strategic advice to business professionals at every level of organization regarding legislative and regulatory matters.

  • Ability to effectively collaborate with diverse group of internal and external stakeholders to develop and effectively lobby GEICO’s position.

  • Client-service oriented and enthusiasm for working in a team-oriented, dynamic environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision of day-to-day tasks while also appropriately identifying matters requiring escalation.
