The Legal Department is seeking a Counsel 1 to join the Client Relationship Group section within the Wealth & Investment Management Division providing legal support associated with the retail brokerage and private bank activities of Wells Fargo & Co. Candidate should be able to excel in a stimulating, diverse, and collegial work environment where team members routinely collaborate within the Legal Department and throughout the company to effectively identify and manage risk. This counsel role includes handling matters from retail brokerage offices regarding general legal issues, including trusts, estates, powers of attorney, UTMAs, guardianships, pledged accounts, TODs, as well as client agreements and other contractual matters. Responsibilities may also include handling matters associated with retail brokerage operations, including books and records, margin/credit, securities lending, restricted stock, clearance/settlement, trade reporting, possession and control requirements, electronic delivery/signature, as well as client agreements and other contractual matters. Attorney will also be responsible for providing legal analyses, reviewing/updating policies and procedures, as well as other projects as needed, including research of statutes and regulations.


Required Qualifications


  • A Juris Doctorate (JD) degree

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy skills
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to effectively organize and prioritize work while handling multiple matters
  • Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to interact with all levels of an organization
  • Experience developing partnerships and collaborating with other business and functional areas
  • Advanced Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, LiveMeeting and SharePoint) skills

  • Active State Bar Membership must be obtained within 1 year of hire date
