JOB SUMMARY:
The Bronx District Attorney's Office seeks a well-qualified staff whose diverse backgrounds contribute to serve the 1.4 million members of the Bronx County community and pursue a safer Bronx through fair justice. The Economic Crimes Bureau (ECB), located within the Investigations Division is seeking an experienced attorney (10+ years) to serve as Bureau Chief. Reporting to the Investigations Division Chief and Deputy Division Chief, the Bureau Chief will oversee ECB which investigates and prosecutes fraudulent schemes, scams and criminal plots to defraud the public, businesses and government agencies in the Bronx; high-value corporate and personal income tax evasion; large-scale tax fraud (such as untaxed cigarette trafficking enterprises);cyber-crimes, and complex frauds involving cryptocurrency. ECB works closely with other bureaus throughout the Office to identify the correlation between fraud and theft-based economic crimes, and the upsurge in violence throughout the Bronx. Further, ECB continues to implement new technology and utilizes the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) as well as strong partnerships with local, state and federal law enforcement in its efforts.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Oversee, supervise, and direct all investigations and investigations conducted by ECB.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with various state, local and federal law enforcement agencies.
  • Communicate across multiple organizational levels, both internally and externally.
  • Conduct in-depth case reviews and conferences.
  • Understand and respond clearly and effectively (oral/written) to complex legal issues.
  • Work cooperatively with a large and diverse staff.
  • Participate in training for office personnel and outside agencies.
  • Available nights, weekends and holidays.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Juris Doctorate degree, required.
  • 10+ years of experience, 18 months in a managerial role required.
  • US Citizenship and New York State Residency are required as of first day of employment.
  • Significant experience conducting and overseeing long term investigations into financial crimes, cyber-crimes and complex frauds involving cryptocurrency.
  • Significant trial experience including, but not limited to, financial crimes, cyber-crimes and complex frauds involving cryptocurrency.
  • A firm grasp of the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN).
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of information.
  • Strong business planning and forecasting skills.
  • Strong legal writing skills.
  • Excellent computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel.
  • Excellent presentation and organizational skills.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and strong ethics.
  • Excellent people skills.
  • Ability to solve complex issues arising from investigations and case management problems from inception through conclusion both professionally and fairly.
  • Knowledge of NYS courts and the criminal justice system.
