Legal.io is working with a tech company in the location mapping and data space to hire a full-time, permanent corporate counsel.

The ideal candidate has 4 - 7 years of experience in product counseling and commercial work.

What You’ll Do:

  • Reviewing, drafting, and negotiating a wide variety of commercial agreements, including master services, licensing, professional services, marketing, and vendor agreements; 
  • Identifying legal and regulatory issues in product initiatives and customer agreements, including privacy and data security issues, and working with the appropriate resources to create solutions and minimize risk;
  • Assisting with tracking and managing existing contract expirations, renewals, non-renewals, extensions, and amendments;
  • Engaging strategically in risk assessment/mitigation and developing innovative approaches to legal issues in support of business objectives;
  • Providing practical, creative legal advice in a fast-paced, high growth environment;
  • Working closely with the teams charged with generating business and proactively establishing relationships with other departments including Marketing, Finance, Product, and Engineering;
  • Assisting with corporate, M&A, and other legal matters as requested; and
  • Providing strategic legal advice and counsel on a broad range of legal topics.

  • Knows firsthand the challenges of a growth stage company and anticipates the problems of scaling.
  • Has experience designing, implementing, and executing effective commercial, transaction, and related processes.
  • Communicates clearly and empathetically both face-to-face and in writing.

Required Qualifications:

  • At least 4 years of experience at either a top law firm and/or in-house
  • 2+ years of direct in-house experience
  • JD + license to practice in at least one US jurisdiction with eligibility for registered in-house counsel status.
  • A wonk-ish interest in commercial work and technology of all sorts
  • Excellent grasp of enterprise SaaS transactions
  • Excellent negotiation skills including first-hand experience of leading negotiations with parties across multiple jurisdictions

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience at a high-growth technology company
  • Experience at a mapping or location data company
