In May 2019, TerraCycle launched its newest initiative, Loop, a global circular shopping system that enables brands, retailers and consumers to transition from single-use disposable materials to reusable, durable packaging, washed by Loop and refilled by the brands. Loop has engaged many of the world's largest consumer product companies (including P&G, Nestlé, Unilever, PepsiCo, Coca-Cola, and Mondelez) and many of the world’s largest retailers in this platform. Loop is currently available in the continuous U.S, and the greater Paris region in France, with plans to expand into several new markets including Canada, Japan, the UK and Australia by the end of 2021.

Job Overview

We are looking for a resourceful and driven legal professional, capable of fulfilling a range of legal assignments with focus on drafting, editing, and negotiating complex commercial agreements related principally to Loop’s retail and logistics divisions.

The successful candidate will primarily oversee the legal work for Loop (and TerraCycle) retail divisions on a global level. Significant experience working on commercial agreements in the retail/logistics/supply chain areas is a must.

This role will report to the General Counsel of TerraCycle/Loop and will be based in our Trenton, NJ office (remote during COVID with possibility for continued majority remote working after COVID if desirable to the candidate).

Primary Responsibilities

  • Ensure that the company complies with all applicable laws, rules and regulations within the associate’s areas of responsibility
  • Keep manager informed of all material legal matters affecting the company
  • Review, draft and negotiate complex legal agreements and other legal documents
  • Advising on and researching commercial/consumer law questions (examples include e-commerce, regulations, etc.)
  • Review and scrutinize internal terms and conditions documents applicable to Loop and TerraCycle retail divisions (e.g. terms of purchase for products and services, mobile apps and similar products), and terms and conditions of vendors and other partners for LOOP manufacturing and supply chain
  • Address revisions with internal teams
  • Advise the company concerning legal rights and obligations
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of this position with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Provide a variety of other general corporate and commercial legal services to several in-house clients
  • Maintains an effective and organized form library and executed contract repository
. Requirements:
  • 10+ years of experience in the area(s) of current practice
  • Experience in the following substantive areas: commercial relationships, and complex commercial contracts with focus on retail, ecommerce, supply chain, and logistics.
  • Must be admitted to the practice of law in at least one U. S. jurisdiction.
  • Ability to advise clients in a manner that demonstrates an understanding of the business objectives and risk/reward analysis
  • Ability to handle multiple projects efficiently and to deal effectively with clients
  • Excellent oral and written and communication skills as well as excellent writing skills
  • Excellent practical and creative problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent business judgment
  • Capability of handling most matters with a minimum of supervision
  • Proven ability to execute complex projects and negotiations
  • Creative and analytical thinker, problem solver who can thrive in a fast-paced environment, prioritize and oversee multiple projects at once
  • Attention to detail and work well with cross-functional teams
  • Timeline-driven with a strong sense of urgency and ability to meet deadlines

Compensation

  • Salary (monthly contracting fee) depending on experience
  • Part-time role (average three days per week) with flexible working hours
  • The company’s office is located in Trenton, NJ; candidate may primarily work remotely (see above)
  • Start Date – October 1, or sooner
