Canvas Credit Union
Posted Sep 14
Full Time
RemoteLone tree, Colorado

Start Here
Finding a job can be overwhelming- plowing through dense, super specific job descriptions, spending hours filling out applications, and then, if you’re lucky, you get a tag-team interview that leaves you spinning.
Not here.
At Canvas, we’re dedicated to transforming financial services, and that includes recruitment. We aren’t ashamed to say it. Working here is delightful. We’re a family and the time we spend together is full of support and comradery, and it’s fun. Make no mistake, we’re serious-minded professionals who take our responsibilities to heart, but we also know how to dance, and most importantly, how to laugh.
Who We Are
We are Canvas and we are passionate about disrupting the way people experience financial services. “Helping you afford life” and “People before profits” aren’t just advertising taglines for us. They’re literally words we live by. Shareholder profits don’t drive us. Our members, our families, and the communities we live and work in are all that matter here. (World peace and recycling is super important too.) We’re strong supporters of the credit union movement, and of providing our members with the education, support, and guidance to build strong, independent financial futures. And we want your help.
What’s in it for you
This is the good stuff. Take a look at what sets Canvas apart from other financial institutions:

  • You’ll be the legal legend of our Canvas family. Grey areas and sticky situations are your specialty, and we’ll look to you for guidance.
  • We have seriously good benefits! Beyond healthcare, dental, and life insurance, we have a pretty sweet package. Canvas employees get up to a 10% company contribution to their 401K, generous personal time off, and an employee discount on loans (that includes cars and homes)! The starting hourly pay range for this position is $21.63 ($45,000.00) - $24.03 ($50,000.00), and final pay rate will be determined based on experience and internal equity factors.
  • This dream job is a career. Legal Operations Specialist is the foundation of a bright career on the Legal team at Canvas. We invest in developing your skills and promote heavily from within. While we hope you stay with us until you retire, Credit Unions across the country collaborate with each other and hire from within.

What You Will Do
The home base for this dream job is at our Home Office in Lone Tree. The following is a sneak peek into what a Legal Operations Specialist’s day looks like:

  • ASSIST with the processing of bankruptcy related documents, garnishments, subpoenas, and other legal documents.
  • EDUCATE our frontline family by assisting in notary training.
  • PERFORM maintenance on member accounts in instances where bankruptcy has been filed. This includes creating new loans, flagging accounts for charge-offs, ensuring blocks are places on accounts, and closing accounts and lines of credit.
  • PROVIDE assistance to our frontline family and all departments with an initial review of legal questions.
  • EXHIBIT a superior knowledge of Symitar, Synapsys, Pacer, Temenos, Vsoft, Synergy and CUDC (Credit Union Direct Connect).
  • CREATE Proofs of Claim and other related documents for bankruptcy cases.
  • DETERMINE if further action needs to be taken on bankruptcy filings, by checking account closure letters, retain and pay letters, reaffirmation letters and agreements, Relief from Stay documents, Objections, and Proofs of Claim.
  • COLLABORATE with our Legal family to ensure all legal matters are accurately processed and tracked, and determine whether another review of the case is needed for more complex issues.
  • ENSURE that all Canvas legal cases are organized by monitoring calendars, and scheduling meetings and case deadlines for the Legal team.
  • ANALYZE credit report disputes submitted by members filing bankruptcy.
  • PROCESS all invoices related to legal fees.
  • STAND shoulder to shoulder with our family through our peaks and valleys.

Who You Are
Enough about us. Here's who you are…or who you think you are, or who you really want to be:

  • You are delightfully off-beat: you’re different and proud of it!
  • You have superior knowledge of Canvas’ products and services and how they can help our members afford life.
  • You’ve earned high fives and fist bumps for your up-to-date knowledge on the FCRA (Fair Credit Reporting Act).
  • You may maintain a paralegal certificate or not.
  • You hold the superpower to quickly transcribe recorded information.
  • You know your way around Microsoft Office, and even a thing or two about Metro 2 Format and E-Oscar.

We know you might not have every qualification we’ve listed. Passion and potential matter here. If you know you’re right for the position, let us know. We’re good at spotting talent.
Other Important Information
You’ll be asked to work a flexible schedule Monday through Friday - 40 hours per week. You’ll use standard office equipment such as computers, phones, printers, copiers, and filing cabinets. The position also requires manual dexterity- the ability to lift files and flex paperclips. You may be required to stand on one leg, tap your head, and compound daily variable interest in your head. Just kidding- nobody can do that on one leg.
