Job Summary

Eaton Corporation is currently seeking a Senior Commercial Counsel, Electrical Sector to join our team. This position will be based at one of our locations in Beachwood, OH, Moon Township, PA, Southfield or Galesburg, MI.

Reporting to the Vice President and Chief Counsel, Global Contracts and Government Compliance, the Senior Commercial Counsel will serve as one of the lead commercial attorneys for the Electrical Sector within Eaton Corporation, a global intelligent power management solutions company. He/She/They will work in a dynamic, fast paced and innovative environment on a wide range of complex commercial issues and legal initiatives.

Job Responsibilities

  • You will provide strategic, tactical, and senior level legal guidance to the Eaton Organization in order to maximize benefits and reduce risk in all phases of supplier and customer engagement with a high volume of deal flow.
  • You will ensure the business practices, policies and activities of the Eaton enterprise meet legal and management requirements.
  • You will proactively identify potential problems and devise creative solutions that strike an effective balance between cost and return, including both short term and long-term business and legal considerations.
  • You will analyze and interpret complex commercial contract terms and conditions to ensure compliance, consistency, and legal risk mitigation across multiple jurisdictions globally.
  • You will deliver innovative, pragmatic, timely legal counsel to various internal clients across a broad range of products and services.
  • You will have previous experience managing a team of legal professionals with a wide range of responsibilities across numerous business units.
  • You will lead negotiations in order to properly communicate Eaton’s position, optimize benefits and mitigate risk while exhibiting a comprehensive understanding of Eaton products and services in order to identify risk and develop solutions.
  • You will engage, manage and supervise outside counsel when appropriate and necessary, to provide the necessary level of legal services required for specific transactions.
  • You will manage a wide-ranging array of complex issues in commercial transactions.
  • You will have a demonstrated ability to collaborate with and influence global cross functional teams and partners.
  • You will be “hands on”, involved in the business and experienced in advising and interacting with senior business leaders.

Qualifications

Qualifications

Education level required: JD degree from an accredited law school

Years and area of experience required: Minimum of 8 years of legal experience at a public company

Technical knowledge: Licensed Attorney in a minimum of one jurisdiction in the United States

Soft skills:

  • Demonstrated legal knowledge and leadership
  • Sound strategic thinking
  • Ability to provide legal advice and guidance to executives, clients and other attorneys
  • Ability to manage complex professional relationships working in a large established law practice
  • Possesses a global view as well as the ability to dig deep into the details to meet internal and external customer needs
  • Knows when it is necessary to use influence to drive difficult decisions as well as understands when additional investigation is required
  • Excellent spoken and written communications skills and the ability to adapt the message to effectively share information with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Genuinely enjoys the practice of corporate law, naturally inquisitive and demonstrates tenacity when working on complex projects.
  • Experience with a large law practice providing ample opportunities to work on a wide variety of projects.
  • Comfort in juggling heavy workload and multiple matters
  • Demonstrated leadership, sound strategic thinking and ability to support executives, clients and other attorneys.
  • Eager to take on leadership initiatives and challenging opportunities
