NASCAR seeks a talented professional to join in the position of Media Counsel based in Charlotte, NC.

Media Counsel will advise the Company on legal aspects of entertainment and productions services and negotiate and draft various types of agreements. Assists in advising the Company and its affiliates on legal aspects of the media businesses (including, but not limited to, television/digital/radio content licenses, online advertising agreements, production services, software licenses).

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Counsel (including research and compliance review) various business units on execution of and issues related to content licenses, digital business operations, and production services, including, but not limited to, rights and clearances/releases, copyright and fair use issues, software licenses, broadcast and other exhibition/transmission of content
  • Draft, review and negotiate content licenses, production services agreements, online advertising agreements, software license agreements, and other agreements
  • Manage various IP registration and/or portfolio processes
  • Provide legal advice and support to NASCAR Media Group and its affiliates
  • Review and draft legal correspondence
  • Provide legal education to business units
  • Special projects as needed
  • Approximate travel 10%

Required skills / experience:

  • Juris Doctorate (JD) degree from an ABA-accredited law school, admission to a state bar and in good standing; and a minimum of three (3) years’ legal experience in a law firm and/or corporate legal department with demonstrated, substantive experience in content licensing, software license agreements, data protection agreements, digital license agreements, and production services; experience within the sports or entertainment areas is preferable
  • License to practice law, and in good standing, with a state bar in the United States
  • Proficient in Word, Outlook, and ability to become proficient on other Company-provided hardware and software
  • Must have strong inter-personal skills; demonstrated ability to handle a large volume of work and balance competing demands of numerous clients under time pressure; must be a pro-active self-starter with a demonstrated ability to work efficiently and with minimal supervision
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
