Overview

The Deputy General Counsel - Litigation is responsible for providing advice and legal counsel to the Company on a broad range of matters. The incumbent in this role will report to the General Counsel/Security and assist with all in-house litigation matters and with the preparation of all litigation and risk reports. The Deputy General Counsel will also manage and supervise a team of paralegals as well as a staff of litigation attorneys.

Responsibilities

 

  • Responsible for providing advice and legal counsel to the company on a broad range of matters.
  • Manage Lennar corporation’s in-house litigation attorneys and outside attorneys in all aspects of litigation facing the enterprise, including construction defect, personal injury, environmental, employment, land use, and contract (business) disputes.
  • Assist the General Counsel in the preparation of litigation and risk reports to the Audit Committee of the Board of Directors, outside auditors, and internal business clients.
  • Assists the General Counsel with an array of departmental administrative matters, budgetary and compliance activities, internal investigations, and other legal matters as they arise.
  • Responsible for establishing and assuring compliance with case management strategies to further the business goals of the company.
  • Supervises a staff of litigation attorneys and paralegals.

Qualifications

Education and Experience Requirements:

 

  • Juris Doctorate required and admitted to a state bar association. Admission to at least one state bar.
  • Fifteen years experience litigation experience, including some construction defect, personal injury and contract dispute litigation.
  • In-house experience.
  • Experience in analysis and determination of legal reserves for accounting.
  • Experience managing a diverse portfolio across several states including Texas, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Virginia and Maryland.
  • Experience managing outside counsel and negotiating engagement and fee agreements, including alternative fee arrangements.
  • Experience in ADR, including arbitration and mediation.
  • Experience managing in-house counsel and support staff.
