The candidate will provide legal advice and counsel to the asset servicing, capital markets and investment management businesses of State Street, including custody, administration, foreign exchange sales and trading, currency management, securities lending, agency brokerage, transition management, electronic trading platforms and investment management, in each case particularly as it relates to their offering, operation and anticipated growth in Latin America.

What You Will Be Responsible For

As VP Senior Counsel, you will be responsible for:
  • Drafting, reviewing and negotiating complex agreements, disclosures and client communications, which may involve coordinating with multiple internal and external stakeholders
  • Providing legal and regulatory advice to business and legal colleagues to support strategic changes to State Street’s business model, including new products, services, partnerships and offices
  • Advising the business team on the legal implications of regulations applicable to the bank’s over-the-counter trading businesses, including Dodd Frank, the Volcker Act, and relevant Latin American regulations, particularly in the jurisdictions of Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Peru
  • Collaborating with business, compliance, risk and legal partners to find solutions to challenging regulatory, contractual and operational issues
  • Instructing and managing external counsel
What We Value

These skills will help you succeed in this role
  • Practice background in institutional financial services for corporate and public pensions, central banks, other sovereign clients and collective investment schemes (banking, custody, accounting, foreign exchange, securities lending and ancillary financial asset services).
  • Experience with software licensing and SaaS-based solutions
  • Strong knowledge of relevant capital markets regulations in both the United States and Latin America, such as those applying to over-the-counter derivatives, securities, brokerage and lending, as well as fiduciary issues, Basel netting and other bank regulatory requirements
Education & Preferred Qualifications
  • Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school. Licensed to practice in Florida, New York or Massachusetts
  • Fluency in Spanish and/or Portuguese in addition to English highly preferred
  • Preference will be given to candidates willing to report part-time to our Boston office (at least 2-3 days per week), though other full-time remote locations in the U.S. may be considered.
Additional Requirements
  • Although the position is based in Miami, FL, the initial 4-8 weeks will be spent training with lawyers located in Boston
  • Travel to Boston and for client meetings in Latin America
