Job Description

The Lead Paralegal - Litigation manages all aspects of case management and acts as a liaison between in-house counsel, outside counsel and the business for litigation and pre-litigation, administrative and regulatory claims. This role requires considerable initiative, independent judgment, resourcefulness, the ability to manage multiple priorities and work in a fast-paced environment. The Lead Paralegal - Litigation prepares and handles sensitive and confidential information with maximum discretion.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage retention and coordination of outside counsel and other vendors.
  • Consult, assist, and coordinate with in-house counsel on all aspects of case management in all phases.
  • Act as a liaison between in-house counsel, outside counsel and the business.
  • Lead the legal hold process.
  • Assist with the factual development and analysis of matters, including speaking with the relevant business contacts and gathering and reviewing documents.
  • Manage the discovery process, including collecting, retaining and producing documents, reviewing written discovery responses and securing other appropriate internal review of written discovery responses.
  • Manage review, investigation and response to subpoenas, administrative charges and pre-litigation claims.
  • Track case deadlines, report updates and maintain litigation database.
  • Draft internal memos, executive summaries and other correspondence. Prepare spreadsheets, organizational charts, timelines, presentations, project management tracking.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Graduation from an American Bar Association certified paralegal school
  • Must have a minimum of 5 years of previous experience in a corporate legal department, preferably in a litigation setting 

 

SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Ability to handle multiple projects in a fast-paced, team environment.
  • Act ethically and has a strong work ethic, good judgment and ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Understanding of, and compliance with, confidentiality policies and company/attorney-client privilege requirements.
  • Well-developed analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Must be flexible and be comfortable with change.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong proofreading skills.
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite including Word, PowerPoint and Excel, and experience with Outlook.
