The Assistant General Counsel, reporting to PAGNY’s General Counsel, is responsible for analyzing, managing and advising on legal and regulatory matters of the organization and will assist in monitoring all activities of the organization to ensure compliance with its obligations under the affiliation agreement with the Health + Hospitals system.

Responsibilities: • Provides high quality strategic and legal advice to management and other internal sources on issues presented, including issues of employment, corporate and health law. • Assists in the legal review of projects that are submitted to the General Counsel for approval. • Manages legal affairs including litigation, arbitration and ensuring compliance with all applicable statutory and regulatory requirements. • Drafts, negotiates, and approves legal agreements between PAGNY and other service providers. • Provide guidance and advice to ensure compliance with applicable collective bargaining agreements and engage union representatives to address matters related to the collective bargaining agreements. • Supervise/monitor the activities of retained outside counsel. • Provides leadership, guidance, and support to promote compliance with applicable laws and regulations. • Assist in overseeing compliance program and provide guidance and advice on compliance issues. • Provide proactive guidance to mitigate risk and liability. • Represent the organization in state and federal court, before administrative tribunals and governmental bodies and in healthcare forums.

Qualifications : • Law Degree from an accredited law school. • Licensed and registered to practice law in New York State. • Ten or more years of relevant, progressive experience as a practicing lawyer required. • Labor and Employment litigation/arbitration experience and negotiation skills required.Experience in a healthcare organization required. • Health law knowledge and experience with applicable federal and state laws and regulations related to compliance and privacy issues, including fraud and abuse required. • Ability to operate independently with minimal supervision and address a variety of legal issues. • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Ideal candidate will be a quick study; able to think strategically while also being detail-oriented; work well under pressure and able to juggle multiple priorities; have excellent interpersonal, speaking and writing skills; a strong academic background; excellent analytical and advising skills; and demonstrated judgment and discretion.

Annual Salary = $185,000.00 - $205,000.00 The salary range and/or hourly rate listed is a good faith determination of potential base compensation that may be offered to a successful applicant for this position at the time of this job advertisement and may be modified in the future. When determining base salary and/or rate, several factors may be considered as applicable (e.g., location, years of relevant experience, education, credentials, negotiated contracts, budget, and internal equity).
