Job Title: Contract Employment Attorney
Location: Remote - Boston area preferred
Pay: $75-85/hour

Job Summary:

A highly qualified attorney who practices employment law, handles complex legal assignments, and operates under minimal supervision. Generally has at least five years` experience practicing as an employment lawyer. Provides legal advice and carries out actions which have an impact upon the rights, privileges and responsibilities of the Company while maintaining high standards of legal and business ethics and professional responsibility. ​This person will handle primarily Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Maine, Vermont, and Rhode Island matters, but there may be a need to fill in on other state matters as well.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide high quality oral and written legal advice concerning Title VII, ADEA, ADA, FMLA, FLSA, USERRA, ERISA, among others, in a cost-effective and timely manner to internal clients.
  • Assess demand letters, recommend options to internal clients in a timely manner, and when authorized, negotiate settlement arrangements.
  • Manage administrative charges (including assessing charges, interviewing witnesses, preparing timely responses, preparing and presenting witnesses).
  • Manage employment issues in M&A matters.
  • Manage outside counsel in connection with state or federal court litigation; assess strategy and recommend timely options for internal consideration.
  • Work with compensation and benefits counsel on qualified pension & 401k plans, executive compensation, nonqualified deferred compensation, 409A, and health and welfare benefits, and other complex benefit issues.
  • Prepare and conduct training sessions for internal clients.
  • Maintain current knowledge of legal issues and developments in employment law and/or benefits law.

Preparation, Training & Experience:

  • Overview of the minimum knowledge, skills and abilities that are typically required to perform the duties of the role. In lieu of any required and/or preferred technical/managerial experience, participation in a company-wide sponsored rotational assignment program that provides broad exposure to multiple functions within the organization would be considered.
  • Requirements include excellent oral and written communication skills, client focus, managing multiple priorities, attention to detail and demonstrated ability to conduct research and analysis of legal issues.
  • In depth knowledge of employment laws.
  • Completion of law school with a J.D. or L.L.B. degree and admission to the bar of at least one jurisdiction in the Client States required.
  • Generally requires at least five years` experience as a practicing employment attorney.
