Position Summary

Provide legal advice and guidance on matters affecting Bechtel compliance activities with a specific focus on anti-corruption compliance. Will also assist with other compliance areas including antitrust, import/export, economic sanctions, nuclear regulatory and anti-boycott. The legal work is typically complex and challenging: issues are unique and require a high degree of original and creative legal knowledge for their solution; issues may require extensive research and analysis and the obtaining and evaluating of commercial input regarding legal matters that are of critical importance to the organization. Carries out assignments independently.

On occasion, directs and reviews the work of paralegals and other individuals providing input on compliance matters including outside counsel and/or other members of the GBU or Legal Department. At times consults with outside counsel and internal audit, as appropriate.

Responsibilities

  • Performs legal work in major areas (see below).
  • Anti-corruption compliance:
    • Knowledgeable on global anti-corruption laws such as FCPA, UK Bribery Act and similar laws, including the legal requirements for effective anti-corruption compliance programs.
    • Assists with updating corporate policies and instructions to reflect best practices.
    • Assists with due diligence of representatives, associates, and exclusive suppliers.
  • Antitrust Compliance:
    • Assists relevant internal stakeholders with questions about antitrust compliance.
  • Import/Export Compliance:
    • Assists with global oversight of legal issues associated with US and EU export issues in support of Export SME.
    • Should have working knowledge of government agencies administering regulations.
  • Economic Sanctions:
    • Assists with global oversight of various economic sanctions regimes applicable to Bechtel.
    • Assists with GBU requests for guidance on economic sanctions laws.
  • Nuclear Regulatory Compliance:
    • Assist the NS&E and INF GBU’s with compliance related to U.S. and other relevant laws applicable to civil nuclear projects in the U.S. and abroad.
    • Should have working knowledge of government agencies enforcing relevant regulations.
  • Anti-boycott compliance:
    • Assure that Bechtel has effective processes and procedures in place to comply with US anti-boycott regulations.
    • Ensures corporate policies and instructions are up to date and reflect best practices.
  • General:
    • Assists with training related to items detailed above.
    • Coordinates with the Ethics and Compliance Department and Internal Audit team in responding to HelpLine events and compliance related audit issues.
    • Performs special assignments as needed.

Qualifications And Skills

Basic Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree.

Additional Qualifications

  • Extensive knowledge of anti-corruption and other compliance related governmental regulations.
  • Understanding and experience in matters relating to the engineering and construction industry and ability to adapt general legal concepts to Bechtel projects, global business units (GBUs), functions and service organizations.
  • Awareness of current trends and developments that specifically relate to Bechtel compliance matters.
  • Active membership in the applicable bar association, where required.
  • At least 2-3 years of relevant experience.
