From the legal procurement team working with subcontractors and vendor to obtain the supplies needed to run the business, to the product legal team analyzing new product offerings, to the legal pre-sales team negotiating contracts with customers, to the post-sales project team to complete our contracts as contracted on time and on budget, our team assist supports and facilitates the innovation and business efforts of Motorola Solutions.

Job Description

The Senior Commercial Counsel - Rave serves as the legal support for the Rave business of Motorola Solutions, Inc. (“Motorola”). This attorney will report directly to the Lead Counsel, Global Products and work closely with the various leaders across Motorola in order to provide legal counsel from both a product development/management perspective and also a go to market function. The role will have a broad mandate in building and implementing a legal framework for this growing business.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Advise multiple stakeholders across marketing, product, engineering and business development throughout the product development cycle (from the initial stages of product development, through launch, to market strategy) on a broad range of legal, regulatory and compliance issues related to the Rave business and portfolio.
  • Remain up-to-date on relevant industry, consumer protection, advertising, IP, licensing, and privacy laws and regulations to ensure an ongoing ability to provide sound compliance advice, as applicable.
  • Review, negotiate, draft, interpret and analyze risk in a wide variety of contracts, including customer contracts, vendor contracts, license agreements, and re-seller and distribution contracts.
  • Manage processes and workflows governing the intake, review, and approval of contract requests; train client groups on contracting matters relevant to their business units.
  • Provide pragmatic day to day legal and strategic advice to minimize legal risks while advancing business goals and initiatives.
  • Provide guidance to the business on when to escalate risk issues to senior management and assist with the process to obtain internal approvals for proposal submission and contract execution. Identify and provide guidance to the business on the appropriate management of risks and issues. Suggest risk mitigation solutions.
  • Respond to and resolve commercial disputes; provide product-level guidance to the litigation department around active litigation impacting the Rave business.

Required Skills

  • Experience supporting Product development, commercialization, and launch in the technology space.
  • Strong understanding of technology and law, with a general understanding of cloud industry technologies, IaaS, PaaS and SaaS.
  • Solid foundation of complex commercial contracts and the ability to identify and solve for potential legal and business issues present therein.
  • Working knowledge of regulatory and global data and privacy laws and standards, including but not limited to CPRA, GDPR, HIPAA, EU directives on electronic commerce, data retention and law enforcement.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, sound judgment and decision-making skills within the context of a fast-paced and high stakes business.
  • Strong business acumen, with ability to understand the company’s business objectives, anticipate the legal issues that could arise and drive solutions through execution.

NOTE: Candidate may reside anywhere in the US

Basic Requirements

  • Juris Doctorate degree from an ABA accredited law school, and admission to the Bar in at least one state.
  • Minimum 8 years of work experience as an attorney for private law firm and/or as in-house counsel.
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. indefinitely is required. Employer work permit sponsorship is not available for this position.
