What you will be doing:

The ideal candidate is an Intellectual Property Attorney with a background in both in-house and private practice.  Experience in Financial Services, Technology and/or Computer Software industries is a plus.  The candidate will be primarily responsible for handling a broad range of intellectual property legal issues, including patents, trademarks, source code, open source, AI, press releases, branding matters, copyrights, domain names, licensing, intellectual property transactions, litigation, and other related intellectual property matters and issues. Additionally, the attorney will work with the IP and other legal teams to manage, maintain and enforce FIS’ Intellectual Property, including the patents, trademarks, and copyrights and corresponding portfolios, and handle a variety of intellectual property issues.  This attorney will report to FIS’s Chief Intellectual Property Attorney and interact with the legal, business and development teams. Provides counsel to both the business and legal teams.

Primary responsibility is for a broad range of global intellectual property matters, including IP litigation.  In addition, other responsibilities are assisting the Chief IP Counsel in order to:

  • Manage and oversee the prosecution of patent and copyright applications; both in the US and International jurisdictions.
  • Develop and implement strategy, procedures and programs to develop and maintain trademarks and the intellectual property portfolios and legal rights of the Company, with an emphasis on the enforcement, protection and strategy and other related legal issues.
  • Assist in intellectual property litigation and pre-litigation activities, including working with the legal teams and outside counsel to develop strategies to defend, resolve and prevent various forms of litigation.
  • Assist Legal Team in contract review and analysis regarding intellectual property issues with an emphasis on intellectual property issues.
  • Drafts, negotiates, and interprets IP licenses and contracts.
  • Conduct administrative activities related to intellectual property records/databases and other general duties as assigned.

What you bring:

  • Juris Doctor from an ABA accredited law school
  • Registration to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office; not required but a plus
  • Currently licensed to practice law in the U.S.
  • 8 plus years of experience in the practice of law with an emphasis on Intellectual property
  • Prior financial services, software and technology experience is desirable.
  • Team player mentality with strong communication, drafting and negotiation skills.
  • Excellent business judgment, as well as the ability to prioritize workflow and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • The ability to work both independently and cross-functionally are essential.
  • The ideal candidate will have a strong intellectual property legal background and experience in a law firm or as part of an in-house legal team.
  • Target candidates must be enthusiastic, diligent and demonstrate sound judgment in face of challenging and sometimes competing demands.
