Pacific Life is investing in dynamic and agile talent to contribute to our mission of innovating our business and creating a superior customer experience. We're actively seeking an employment law attorney to provide effective, responsive and strategic employment law advice as a member of the Legal Department of Pacific Life’s office of General Counsel. The successful candidate also will support our Procurement Group on supplier contracts. This role will be hybrid in Newport Beach, CA. The Company also will consider a hybrid role in Omaha, NE.

How You Will Make An Impact

  • As part of the employment law team (led by the Vice President, Associate General Counsel), provide pragmatic legal advice to human resources and senior management on a wide range of employment matters including but not limited to wage and hour compliance, accommodation of disabilities, employee relations, background checks, and WARN compliance.
  • Review and revise policies, employment-related agreements and compensation plans.
  • Assist with responses to federal and state agency administrative charges.
  • Provide employment law support to legal team on mergers and acquisitions.
  • Monitor and advise on developments in state and federal employment law.
  • Provide training on employment-law matters to human resources.
  • Address employment-related matters across the United States in a proactive manner to achieve the best result for the company, including managing budgets with outside counsel.
  • Assist Procurement in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a variety of agreements such as vendor agreements, purchase agreements, service agreements, non-disclosure agreements, IT agreements, consulting agreements, and professional services agreements.
  • Work with Procurement and other members of the legal contract team to develop and maintain policies, playbooks, and procedures to help the organization achieve efficient, reproducible results in the contracting process.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with internal clients and colleagues.
  • Willingness to embrace and become an expert in new areas of law as needed.

The Experience You Will Bring

  • Licensed attorney with at least five years of employment law experience. Experience with California employment law required.
  • Demonstrated experience in handling complex employment issues and a proven track record of providing practical advice to achieve business solutions.
  • Solid problem-solving skills with a proactive and pragmatic approach.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; adept at prioritizing work and providing advice under deadlines; a focus on business enablement; and experienced in translating complex policies and laws into practical business advice.
  • Ability to work independently with only general supervision and direction in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships and positively influence outcomes.
  • Highly motivated, proactive, self-disciplined and team-oriented and ability to work with various levels of staff.
  • Strong experience with contract drafting, negotiations, dispute resolution processes (litigation, mediation, and arbitration).
  • Experience reviewing/negotiating technology contracts, including SaaS, Cloud and on-premise agreements and experience as an in-house attorney are pluses.

Base Pay Range

The base pay range noted represents the company’s good faith minimum and maximum range for this role at the time of posting. The actual compensation offered to a candidate will be dependent upon several factors, including but not limited to experience, qualifications and geographic location. Also, most employees are eligible for additional incentive pay.

$155,700.00 - $190,300.00
