Amazon's Legal Department is looking for a talented attorney with an interest in energy to support Amazon’s work to build and maintain the world’s largest corporate renewable energy portfolio, solve cutting edge energy and carbon challenges, and more. Amazon co-founded The Climate Pledge and committed to powering its global operations with 100% renewable energy by 2030 and reaching Net Zero Carbon by 2040 – ten years ahead of the Paris Climate Agreement.

In this role, you will also support additional aspects of Amazon Web Services’ (AWS) cloud infrastructure, for example AWS’s global network, and the development and procurement of new and emerging technologies. AWS is at the forefront of the cloud computing industry, providing IT infrastructure services such as on-demand compute, storage, database, network and content delivery, artificial intelligence, mobile, and internet of things services, and more.

In this role, you will have transactional drafting and negotiating responsibilities on deals, and will provide legal counsel and contract interpretation to business team members on a daily basis. Transactions range from standard contracts to complex, bespoke, high-value agreements. In addition, you will help develop, implement, and manage process improvements across the team, resolve legal issues that arise in existing commercial relationships, and handle pre-litigation legal disputes and inquiries.

We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic about technology and renewable energy, enjoys working hard and being challenged, and demonstrates sound judgment even in ambiguous situations.

Basic Qualifications

  • J.D. degree (or equivalent) and active membership in good standing in at least one state bar.
  • 5+ years’ experience as a transactional attorney.
  • Experience drafting and negotiating a variety of agreements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with renewable energy projects, grid connection agreements, or working with utilities.
  • A mix of law firm and in-house experience at an energy company or at a company with large energy needs.
  • Ability to work independently while being able to contribute successfully to cross-functional teams.
  • Excited and passionate about energy, sustainability, and innovating on behalf of our customers.
  • Strong analytical, written and oral communication, and client interaction skills

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $123,100/year in our lowest geographic market up to $229,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
