WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

The Trade Desk is a dynamic technology company with a legal team that is rapidly growing. We are looking for an experienced commercial procurement attorney who has excellent judgment, loves to negotiate deals, analyze complex legal issues, and find creative solutions. We seek candidates who enjoy working independently, are highly resourceful, have exceptional communications skills, and balance competing demands in a positive and client-friendly manner. We want collaborators who will help structure deals with business counterparts, and hopefully contribute some humor to our legal slack channel. WHAT YOU’LL DO:

  • Exercise strong judgement to advise The Trade Desk team and contribute to the overall success of the business
  • Structure, draft and negotiate a wide variety of inbound technology, vendor and purchasing contracts, including professional service agreements, cloud services agreements, SaaS subscriptions, on-prem software licenses, data center agreements, IT and equipment purchasing agreements, data protection addendums, and staffing and recruiting agreements
  • Continually improve our templates, playbooks, and legal processes to help us scale globally with a consistent but locally relevant approach
  • Provide practical advice on legal issues and risks, complex agreement structures, and company policies in a risk-tolerant, but compliance-oriented environment
  • Identify, research, analyze, and work with cross-functional teams to address potential risks related to data privacy, AI/ML, intellectual property, software licensing, information security, and labor and employment laws
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to help streamline, automate, and scale The Trade Desk’s global procurement processes
  • Distill and communicate complex legal concepts in layman’s terms

WHO YOU ARE:

  • 8+ years of experience working in an internationally/nationally recognized law firm or in-house legal department
  • Admitted to practice in California or New York, as applicable, or the ability to register as in-house counsel
  • J.D. from an accredited law school
  • Significant experience in negotiating complex technology procurement contracts and leading legal negotiations with large global companies
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact with internal and external constituents at all levels
  • Experience managing outside counsel is a plus
  • Exceptional critical thinking skills and ability to thrive in fast paced environment, while juggling competing, time-sensitive demands
  • Strong business sense and ability to exercise good business judgement
  • Excellent interpersonal skills (sense of humor is a big plus)

The actual amount may differ based on non-discriminatory factors such as experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, and location. All employees may be eligible to become The Trade Desk shareholders through eligibility for stock-based compensation grants, which are awarded to employees based on company and individual performance. The Trade Desk also offers other compensation depending on the role such as sales-based incentives and commissions. Plus, expected benefits for this role include comprehensive healthcare (medical, dental, and vision) with premiums paid in full for employees and dependents, retirement benefits such as a 401k plan and company match, short and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, well-being benefits, reimbursement for certain tuition expenses, parental leave, sick time of 1 hour per 30 hours worked, vacation time for full-time employees up to 120 hours thru the first year and 160 hours thereafter, and around 13 paid holidays per year. At the Trade Desk, Base Salary is one part of our competitive total compensation and benefits package and is determined using a salary range. The base salary range for this role is

$149,900—$274,900 USD
