Your Responsibilities

As an Attorney for the Litigation and Product Liability group of the Deere & Company Global Law Services Group located in Moline, Illinois you will:   

  • Provide primary legal support to all Deere & Company divisions regarding the defense of toxic tort lawsuits in North America.
  • Provide occasional legal support to the Construction & Forestry and John Deere Power Systems divisions of Deere & Company on product liability-related counseling, claims, and lawsuits on either a project level or as needed basis.    
  • Provide research, legal counsel recommendations, and alternatives for the more complex legal questions and issues in support of defending the company in product liability and toxic tort claims and lawsuits.   
  • Assist senior attorneys and staff in the analysis of issues to identify legal problems.    
  • Review legal documents for compliance with applicable laws.
  • Stay current on emerging trends in the law through continuing legal education, reading, professional conferences, and participating in professional associations.

What Skills You Need

  • 1 or more years of legal experience in the general practice of law in a private law firm or a Corporate Law Department
  • Strong interpersonal collaboration skills 
  • Ability to travel domestically up to 10%   

 

What Makes You Stand Out

  • Subject matter knowledge of product liability law, including toxic tort law
  • Strong leadership skills     
  • Knowledge of risk management within areas of specialization and responsibility     
  • Understanding of legal issues affecting area of responsibility with the ability to identify issues associated with assigned tasks, and spot ethical issues in practice 
  • Ability to perform legal research using the internet plus various online tools 
  • Skill in interpersonal communications, negotiation, and conflict resolution
  • Effective writing skills, including grammatical usage, persuasive copy, and style         

 

Education

  • J.D. degree and admission to practice law in Illinois
