About the role:

The Product/Regulatory Counsel will serve as the legal expert on product development, regulatory compliance, and strategy. This role involves ensuring that new and existing products comply with all applicable laws and regulations, advising on legal risks and opportunities, and facilitating product innovation within a complex regulatory framework. This role will report to the Associate General Counsel.

What you'll do:


  • Regulatory Compliance Advisory: Provide expert advice on compliance with financial regulations, including the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), Anti-Money Laundering (AML) laws, Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) requirements, and payments and lending laws. Ensure that product features, especially around payments, purchase orders and cash forecasting, comply with applicable laws, regulations and contractual arrangements (including bank and financial services partnerships).
  • Product Development Support: Collaborate with product teams to integrate legal and regulatory requirements into the design and development of fintech products. This includes advising on product structure, user agreements, and data usage to mitigate legal risks while supporting innovation.
  • Policy Development and Implementation: Draft, review, and update compliance policies and procedures to align with regulatory requirements and business objectives. Ensure that these policies are effectively communicated and implemented across the company.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Act as the primary legal liaison between the company and regulatory bodies, partners, and customers on matters related to fintech products. This includes representing the company in discussions with regulators and industry groups.
  • Risk Management: Identify and assess legal and regulatory risks associated with product offerings, advising on mitigation strategies to protect the company and its customers.
  • Legal and Regulatory Monitoring: Keep abreast of changes in laws and regulations affecting the fintech industry, analyzing the impact on the company's products and advising on necessary actions.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with other departments and key partners compliance teams, including legal, product development, and operations, to ensure that compliance considerations are integrated into business processes.
  • Transaction Support: Provide regulatory support to cross functional partners for various transactions.

What you’ll need:


  • 8-10 years of experience, preferably in commercial finance, fintech, SaaS, and payments.
  • Strategic thinker with strong analytical and problem-solving skills, capable of supporting innovation within a regulatory framework.
  • Clear and concise communication skills to effectively collaborate and negotiate with both internal and external business and legal teams.
  • In-depth knowledge of U.S. financial regulations and their application to fintech products and services.
  • Self-motivated and a willingness to take ownership of projects.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong project management skills and ability to work with many different stakeholders.
  • A great teammate, pitching in wherever needed, whether or not it fits squarely into your role or expertise.
  • JD from an ABA accredited law school and membership in at least one U.S. state bar.

  • Prior in-house and fintech experience is a plus!

Compensation:

This role has an annual starting salary range of $180,000 - $220,000 + equity + benefits. Actual compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to your individual skills and experience.
