Director and Associate Intellectual Property Counsel – Safety and Industrial Business Group

The Impact You’ll Make in this Role

As a Director And Associate IP Counsel, You Will Have The Opportunity To Tap Into Your Curiosity And Collaborate With Some Of The Most Innovative And Diverse People Around The World. Here, You Will Make An Impact By

• Provide advice and counsel to the global division IP counsel team on IP related matter, including IP focused transactions
• Responsible for the patent docket
• Manage global IP litigation matters in collaboration with Litigation team and with input from Division Primary Counsel and the Associate Chief IP Counsel
• Responsible for the protection of trade secret processes globally

Your Skills And Expertise

To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:

• JD (Juris Doctor) in country of practice (completed and verified prior to start)
• Licensed attorney in a US state or otherwise admitted to practice in the United States and must be licensed before the United States Patent and Trademark Office
• Ten (10) years of experience with patent and trademark processes in a private, public, government, or military environment

Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include :

• Admitted to practice in Minnesota or eligible for admission within six (6) months of employment
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in a technical area, including materials science and digital science (completed and verified prior to start)
• Business acumen and an ability to provide legal and compliance advice in the context of strategic business initiatives and goals
• Highly effective written and verbal communications skills, with an ability to communicate and relate at all levels of the organization including business line leaders, regional heads, and senior management
• Results-orientated approach; personal and organizational accountability; and a collegial work style
• High energy and a dedication to responsive client service

Work location:

• Work Your Way Eligible (Employee choice to work remote, on site, or hybrid)

Travel: May include up to 10% domestic

Relocation Assistance: May be authorized

Must be legally authorized to work in country of employment without sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H1B status)

The expected compensation range for this position is $201,308 - $246,043, which includes base pay plus variable incentive pay, if eligible. This range represents a good faith estimate for this position. The specific compensation offered to a candidate may vary based on factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s relevant knowledge, training, skills, work location, and/or experience. In addition, this position may be eligible for a range of benefits (e.g., Medical, Dental & Vision, Health Savings Accounts, Health Care & Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts, Disability Benefits, Life Insurance, Voluntary Benefits, Paid Absences and Retirement Benefits, etc.).
