Brief Description:

The Corporate Counsel, Litigation will support a broad portfolio of litigation matters including but not limited to antitrust, securities, patent, commercial, and employment disputes, and will manage the company’s response to subpoenas and similar investigation requests.  This position requires a practical, business-minded litigator.

This full-time position will report to the Assistant General Counsel, Litigation, Legal Operations & Strategy, based in the US.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the strategy and manage day-to-day flow of a variety of litigation matters in the U.S. and globally. 
  • As dictated by the company’s docket, this attorney may manage or contribute to matters involving broad subject matter, including antitrust, securities, patent, commercial, and employment disputes, and will conduct pre-suit investigation and analysis to support the company’s legal strategy.
  • This attorney will regularly interact with functional leaders in other parts of the company and advise regarding ongoing litigation that impacts their work.  Consults clients regarding potential litigation strategies and outcomes.
  • Within the Jazz Legal, Corporate, and Government Affairs Department, this attorney may be required to participate in strategic initiatives and working groups beyond individual cases. 
  • This attorney may be required to lead or conduct internal investigations or provide legal support for the Compliance Department for such investigations.
  • For all matters on which the Corporate Counsel, Litigation is staffed, this attorney will be responsible for leading all discovery strategy and execution: This includes review of all discovery requests and responses, overseeing collection and review of documents, and identification and preparation of company witnesses to testify in depositions or other proceedings as needed. 
  • Provide legal counsel regarding document retention, responsible disposition of data, and e-discovery obligations and tools.
  • This position will require routine interaction with outside counsel and will be accountable for ensuring law firms adhere to billing guidelines and stay within budget.
  • Develop robust knowledge of Jazz business and supported client areas. Keep abreast of changes in laws that affect client areas.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • JD from accredited law school, with a minimum of 5+ relevant professional experience in a law firm and/or in-house legal department.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.  Must be adept at discussing legal topics with non-lawyers. 
  • Candidates for this role must have significant experience litigating cases in U.S. state and federal courts, including directing or contributing to case strategy and settlement discussions.  Prior representation of pharmaceutical or other life sciences companies is highly desirable.
  • Adept at the ability to develop close, trusting relationships with a diverse set of individuals, characterized by a high-level of collaboration and mutual respect.
  • Excellent critical thinking skills; ability to work through complex issues, including those with significant strategic risk to company.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively, with a record of establishing professional credibility and developing strong working partnerships with all levels across the organization.
  • Demonstrated experience identifying and resolving legal and compliance issues quickly and effectively.
  • Periodic travel throughout the United States and Europe required.

Required/Preferred Education and Licenses

  • Juris Doctorate (J.D.) degree; licensed to practice law in one or more U.S. jurisdictions.

Jazz Pharmaceuticals, Inc. is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices and we strive to provide employees with total compensation packages that are market competitive. For this role, the anticipated base pay range is $204,000-$267,750. The exact base pay offered for this role will depend on various factors, including but not limited to the candidate's qualifications, skills, and experience.

At Jazz, your base pay is only one part of your total compensation package. The successful candidate may also be eligible for a discretionary annual cash bonus or incentive compensation (depending on the role), in accordance with the terms of the Company's Global Cash Bonus Plan or Incentive Compensation Plan, as well as discretionary equity grants in accordance with Jazz's Long Term Equity Incentive Plan.
