Senior / Legal Counsel – Work Dynamics

JLL’s Work Dynamics (WD) business partners with clients across industry sectors to enhance the performance of their real estate portfolios and people. Join our team of exceptional lawyers and professional staff that supports the WD business. We are business partners, and work side-by-side with sales and account teams to develop and execute complex solutions to our clients' evolving commercial real estate needs. The Senior / Legal Counsel WD works at the direction of the Americas General Counsel – WD and will be responsible for negotiating complex regional and multi-national transactions with our clients. The successful candidate for this role will serve as a trusted legal advisor to JLL’s WD business team.

• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; must be adept at identifying key legal issues, developing creative solutions to complicated legal problems, and effectively communicating the same to internal stakeholders and clients
• Experience working in the professional services sector a plus
• Understanding of risk management/mitigation issues as they relate to contracts for professional services

Core Responsibilities

• Actively draft and negotiate complex multi-national transactions with clients
• Participate in Americas Commercial Review Board meetings and present to senior executives and management on areas of legal, commercial, and operational risks present in client contracts, the existence of operational and contractual mitigants, and the scope of services to be performed.
• Analyze complex contractual risks and counsel business teams on operational and legal issues associated with client contracts, as well as matters of contract interpretation, implementation, and risk mitigation strategies.
• Serve as a strategic partner to the Work Dynamics business team which includes providing legal support to help advance various business initiatives including the launch of new commercial products and service offerings.
• Develop and lead regular trainings on various legal topics to internal JLL stakeholders and legal team members.
• Counsel internal business clients on a wide variety of legal issues that arise in the context of performing services for JLL’s Work Dynamics client accounts.
• Liaise with JLL’s Risk Management Department and other internal support functions (e.g., Finance, HR, Tax, Information Security, Compliance) to identify, assess, and thoughtfully mitigate JLL’s exposure to risk.
• Provide support on litigated and non-litigated commercial claims
• Perform legal research as needed

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor from a top-tier law school with a strong academic record
• 3+ years of experience with a major law firm
• Combination of in-house experience and private practice is a plus
• Licensed to practice law in Illinois
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills essential
• Able to conceptualize and articulate pragmatic/creative legal and business solutions to complex legal and business challenges
• Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a strong focus on collaboration.
• Able to work independently, but in a team environment
• Acute attention to detail
