Responsibilities

Role Summary:

Frontdoor seeks a talented, knowledgeable, entrepreneurial and self‐motivated attorney with at least 3 of relevant legal experience to serve as Corporate Counsel. This position This position will report directly to the Vice President, Associate General Counsel – Product & Regulatory and will be responsible for identifying, analyzing, and handling legal, regulatory and contractual issues relating to our business. The ideal candidate will have meaningful regulatory experience with the Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act (“RESPA”), UDAPP, service contracts (ideally home service plans a/k/a “home warranties” or “home service contracts”) and/or relevant insurance products, but general litigation or regulatory background at a top law firm will also be considered. This position requires an analytical and detailed-oriented mindset, coupled with a strong consumer protection, compliance and contract interpretation background or skill set.

Responsibilities Include

  • Providing high quality and timely legal advice and counsel to legal and business team members on a variety of regulatory, consumer protection, compliance and other issues and matters related to the continued growth and expansion of our home warranty business and related offerings.
  • Assisting with responses to regulatory inquiries and investigations, BBB and consumer complaints and other contested matters, including responding to discovery requests, and assisting with document reviews and productions.
  • Reviewing contractual frameworks, agreements, policies and processes associated with our home warranty business for purposes of regulatory compliance with federal (e.g., RESPA), state (e.g., home warranty laws and regulations) and local requirements applicable to home service plans.
  • Willingness to support as needed a range of legal projects beyond regulatory focus areas, including commercial and consumer litigation, contracts, marketing, employment, corporate governance, M&A and legal operations in support of the Company’s strategic priorities and legal objectives.
  • Developing strategies to mitigate risks and identifying opportunities for continuous improvement, especially with regard to legal and regulatory compliance processes.
  • Advising on compliance with state licensure requirements.
  • Ensuring compliance with legal requirements and company policies generally applicable to the company business.
  • Working with business teams to create legally compliant approaches that meet the business objectives of new ventures.
  • Actively participating in a collaborative manner in cross-functional business teams to identify, evaluate and resolve complex business issues and risks.
  • Willingness to handle other projects and matters as may be assigned from time to time.
  • Working with outside counsel on various legal matters as appropriate.

Qualifications

  • J.D. with at least 3 years of experience, ideally withsome regulatory background in service contracts (ideally home service plans) and/or relevant insurance products, RESPA, or UDAPP, but candidates with a general litigation or regulatory background at a top law firm will be considered;
  • Experience with federal and state law applicable to home warranties and/or service contracts, consumer protection law, consumer and commercial contracts, and complex regulatory environments, is preferred;
  • Excellent attention to detail;
  • Demonstrated ability to handle and analyze difficult issues in a professional, constructive and proactive manner;
  • Must be tech-savvy and possess a strong willingness to learn;
  • Customer focus and “can do” attitude;
  • Strong issue identification and problem-solving skills;
  • Ability to multi-task with a sense of urgency and ability to meet deadlines within a changing, fast-paced environment;
  • Good sense of humor and willingness to laugh;
  • Team player with strong interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Good standing in an applicable state bar.

Location:

  • Remote, but willingness to travel to business locations as required.

Compensation

This role pays between $160,000 and $180,000, and your actual base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, responsibilities, experience, and location. At Frontdoor certain roles are eligible for additional rewards and incentives. Speak directly to your recruiter to learn more.
