To support these objectives, Thermo Fisher has an exciting opportunity for a proactive Litigation Paralegal to support in-house and outside litigation teams in all phases of complex civil litigation and dispute management and to manage legal department projects.

This role can be based in the Company’s Pittsburgh, PA (Pittsburgh area) or Waltham, MA (Boston area) locations,

What will you do?

  • Assist in-house and outside litigation teams in all phases of complex civil litigation, from early case assessment through appeal, with emphasis on contract, products liability, personal injury and property damage, toxic tort, environmental litigation and intellectual property.
  • Support litigation projects, including factual investigation, document collection, review and production; discovery requests; and witness interviews and deposition preparation.
  • Support responses to demands, threatened claims, and requests for information from third parties, including third-party subpoenas.
  • Manage litigation holds, new case intake process, files and records; coordinate project and case deadlines.
  • Perform legal and factual research.
  • Contribute to legal department projects, including through project management.
  • Work collaboratively across organizational and geographic boundaries, building scalable processes as you go.
  • Other duties as assigned to support Thermo Fisher’s Mission and the legal department.

How will you get here?

  • 5+ years of commercial litigation experience at a major law firm or in-house legal department. Preference for experience supporting patent litigation or other types of sophisticated commercial disputes.
  • Bachelor's Degree (preferably in business administration, legal studies, communications, or a similar or related subject), or the equivalent knowledge and experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex strategic projects

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • 4+ years of experience with eDiscovery tools (experience with Relativity a plus)
  • Solid understanding of federal, state and local civil procedure rules.
  • 2+ years of experience with project management in either legal or scientific/engineering context.
  • Deadline and detail oriented; self-directed and skilled in prioritization and multitasking.
  • Desire to learn new skills and step outside traditional paralegal tasks including exposure to or interest in project management frameworks.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Tools such as Excel, Power Point, Power BI, Tableau, Miro, Smartsheets.
  • Good interpersonal and communication (written and verbal) skills, strong initiative, results-orientation, collaborative/team instinct, and can-do mindset.
