We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Legal Counsel to join our growing environmental services firm. In this role, you will play a key role in managing a wide range of legal and compliance matters, providing strategic legal advice, and supporting the overall operations of our organization. This position will report to the Chief Financial Officer.

What You'll Do

  • Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of contracts with clients, vendors, and other third parties, ensuring compliance is met.
  • Establish a workflow to ensure thorough and efficient contract / proposal review with acceptable business terms and mitigate legal and business risk.
  • Draft and communicate company policies in collaboration with appropriate key partners.
  • Provide legal advice and counsel on environmental regulations, compliance issues, and other legal matters relevant to Apex operations.
  • Manage employment matters, including creating and reviewing employment agreements, , handling employee relations matters, and advising on compliance with labor laws.
  • Oversee the company's insurance program, including risk management, claims administration, and vendor selection.
  • Manage a small team responsible for contract reviews and provide guidance and supervision.
  • Supervise and coordinate the work of outside counsel engaged by the company.
  • Stay current on emerging legal and regulatory developments in the environmental services industry.
  • Construct a formal Risk Management policy to identify, measure, mitigate, and report/monitor the Internal, External, and Strategic risks with consultant with other executives.
  • Consult with the Talent team to identify employment and labor compliance risks and implement new policies to mitigate.
  • Participate in acquisition related contract and purchase agreement reviews and legal due diligence.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining corporate governance policies and procedures aligned with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Perform other legal and administrative duties as assigned.

What We Need from You:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree and active membership in good standing in a state bar association.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a legal counsel or attorney in a corporate setting, preferably the environmental services industry.
  • Strong experience in drafting and reviewing contracts across a variety of areas, including client services, vendor agreements, and employment contracts.
  • Proven ability to provide sound legal advice and counsel on complex legal and compliance matters.
  • Experience with employment law, insurance, and risk management.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and legal research tools.

Excellent communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills; ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities effectively; strong leadership and team management skills.
