Overview

Burlington is looking to add a detail-oriented & engaging Director, Counsel to our Corporate Legal Team. This is an exciting opportunity for a lawyer to do sophisticated legal work in a dynamic corporate law department setting within a rapidly growing Fortune 500 retail company. The attorney in this role will work on a broad variety of legal issues mainly focused on contractual agreements in a retail environment, vendor sourcing issues, and vendor due diligence.

A Day in the Life

• Negotiate, draft, and review various commercial documents, providing legal guidance to minimize risks and support business objectives.
• Assess business needs and determine appropriate documentation to ensure compliance with laws and mitigate risks.
• Offer proactive risk assessment advice during vendor procurement processes.
• Research and provide recommendations on legal issues, communicating risks and benefits to stakeholders.
• Identify significant issues for escalation to senior legal personnel.
• Maintain contract status reports, archive approvals, and streamline internal contract review processes.
• Summarize agreements for ongoing vendor relationships and update contract templates as needed.
• Stay updated on relevant laws and industry trends, adjusting contractual templates accordingly.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure consistency in contract terms and standards.
• Assist in vendor due diligence activities, including reviewing reports and providing follow-up support to Procurement and IT Departments.

You’ll Come With

• JD from a highly rated accredited law school
• Member of a State Bar and ability to obtain New Jersey in-house certification if not admitted in New Jersey.
• 3-5 years of relevant experience in commercial contractual negotiation and drafting within an in-house corporate legal department setting and/or law firm
• Ability to manage and communicate with Legal department members and outside counsel and vendors
