POSITION OVERVIEW : As part of McCormick’s Corporate Legal Team, this position is an exciting opportunity to join a collegial, dynamic legal department and work with other members of the legal team. The candidate will manage, oversee, and handle litigation and dispute matters, and work collaboratively with business and commercial colleagues to provide strategic counseling and guidance on a variety of litigation matters. The successful candidate will be a motivated and relationship-driven problem solver, and will provide clear, timely, and practical counseling to business leaders.

Responsibilities

RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Provide practical, thoughtful, and strategic legal counsel on litigation, arbitration, and other dispute matters, including counsel to management about litigation risks and strategy
  • Manage and oversee litigation and dispute matters, including ensuring effective, efficient, and practical handling of matters throughout the dispute lifecycle, conducting and/or directing associated legal research, managing discovery and legal hold processes, and drafting, reviewing, and/or managing responses to claims, complaints, discovery requests, and other litigation-related matters
  • Develop and implement effective litigation strategies in collaboration with business stakeholders, legal team members, and outside counsel
  • Track and monitor dispute matters for internal reporting purposes
  • Manage, assess, and supervise outside counsel
  • Manage and conduct legal-directed internal investigations
  • Collaborate with management on key legal issues to proactively identify and mitigate litigation risk, facilitate risk assessment and pragmatic decision making, and to develop viable business solutions to potential legal issues
  • Provide legal advice and counsel to management and company personnel on various other matters facing McCormick, including commercial matters, antitrust matters, advertising, and food law matters, among others

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Juris Doctorate degree, or equivalent, from an accredited law school; Admitted to the bar, in good standing, and licensed to practice law in at least one U.S. state
  • 3-6+ years of substantive legal experience with a nationally recognized law firm or corporate legal department, with emphasis in civil, commercial, regulatory, and/or employment litigation
  • Strong understanding of litigation process and litigation best practices
  • Ability to develop, foster, and maintain long-term effective working relationships at all levels of the company
  • Ability to manage multiple matters, meet deadlines, adapt to changing situations, handle an array of legal issues, and provide sensible, responsive, and practical advice in a timely fashion
  • Excellent organizational, case management, communication, and interpersonal skills; sound legal and business judgment

Preferred Qualifications & Skills

  • Food litigation experience
