Job Description

If you are a Paralegal Professional looking for an opportunity to grow, Emerson has an exciting opportunity for you! You will work closely with the Intellectual Property team to provide support on various legal issues while serving as liaison between internal and external resources, initially requiring some guidance and direction, with reduced levels of supervision as experience grows.

In this Role, Your Responsibilities Will Be:

Patent Portfolio Management:

  • Review and validation of new invention disclosures for the Business Unit (BU) Intellectual Property (IP) Counsel.
  • Ensure that the patent database is updated properly; provide assistance to the IP Administrator when needed and confirm Outside Counsel Compliance with portfolio database management.
  • Organizing current invention disclosures and preparing documents for the Patent Review Committee.
    • Update dashboard charts and upcoming maintenance to be reviewed at the Patent Review Committee Meeting
  • Coordinate with BU IP counsel to review invoices, provide forecasting, and track spending for budgets, including capitalization information.
    • Coordinate with finance teams for quarterly review of CIP and NBV.
  • Administer, collect and notarize when needed, all signature requests (POA, etc.); and
  • Generate content for Patent Award reporting and distribute to HR team.

Trademark Portfolio Management:

  • Review maintenance decisions with BU IP Counsel and BU Marketing; review goods and services to ensure their use; and provide appropriate specimens to outside counsel.
  • Carry out short trademark clearance searches.
  • Ensure that the trademark database is updated properly; provide assistance to the IP Administrator when needed.
  • Review invoices and track spending for budgets.
  • Administer, collect and notarize when needed, all signature requests (POA, etc.) and collect specimens as needed.

M & A Support:

  • Assist BU IP Counsel in the Review and summary of target Company IP portfolio

Enforcement:

  • Provide Support for review competing product(s) with Engineering for potential infringement.
  • Obtain and Administer Activities/Coordination with Emerson Patent Search Group.

Training:

  • Maintain list of current activities and content for BU IP training programs.

Contract Administration:

  • Provide management for Contract Lifecycle Management for the IP Group
    • Template List maintenance.
    • Contracts Registry for implemented contracts.
    • Administration of revenue-bearing contracts.
  • BU Royalty bearing contracts terms and disbursements.
  • BU Settlement Agreement terms and disbursements.

For This Role, You Will Need:

  • 3 years of relevant work experience in Intellectual Property
  • Associate in Applied Science degree in Paralegal Studies or equivalent training or certification
  • Notary Public with current certification or the ability/willingness to obtain it

Preferred Qualifications that Set You Apart:

  • 5 years of relevant work experience in Intellectual Property
  • Experience with a corporate patent management system a plus
  • Advanced MS Office skills (e.g. certified as an MOS Master)
  • Excellent oral and written English language skills
  • Strong organizational skills, reliable and good attention to detail
  • Good working knowledge of US and foreign patent and trademark laws and regulations
