Post-Bar Law Clerk / Associate Attorney Job Description: Modern Family Law is looking to hire a limited number of exceptional candidates to join our firm in a Law Clerk role with transition to an Associate Attorney upon licensure. This exciting position will provide a unique opportunity for successful candidates to work closely with our experienced attorneys and in-house Director of Legal Learning and Development to gain hands-on experience, mentorship support, and specialized education and training in family law and advocacy. Upon successful completion of clerkship and licensure, candidates will transition directly to a Level 1 Associate Attorney position with Modern Family Law.

The ideal candidate will be a disciplined and highly motivated self-starter who is compassionate and passionate about helping others. Applicants should excel in critical thinking, creative problem solving, time and task management, organizational skills, effective communication, negotiation and listening skills, professionalism, research and writing.

Law Clerk Roles and Responsibilities include:

  • Completion of the firm’s attorney onboarding training
  • Seek and implement feedback from attorney mentors
  • Conduct legal research and draft memos
  • Shadow attorneys to observe various meetings, hearings, mediations, etc.
  • Attend court sessions to become familiar with courtroom etiquette and judges
  • Attend matter status meetings, initial client interviews, team meetings, and client strategy sessions with supervising attorneys
  • Draft and/or edit draft petitions, motions, responses, proposed orders, settlement agreements, etc.
  • Assist with discovery and work with paralegals to complete sworn financial statements and other disclosures
  • Work with attorneys to prepare for hearings, including witness preparation, strategy, etc.
  • Engage in litigation practice skills sessions
