What to Expect

Tesla has an outstanding opportunity to join our dynamic legal team as Corporate Counsel. In this role, you will work on regulatory matters and support our consumer vehicle products in North and South America. You will provide counsel pertaining to Tesla’s direct sales business related to sales, delivery, service and financing of our products. You will also support our Policy team in the development of changes to applicable laws and regulations. You will provide legal support to our consumer product business teams when they launch new financial products or consumer services. The role includes a combination of law and policy and the ability to problem solve in a fast-paced environment. This position will be based in the Bay Area or Washington DC.

What You’ll Do
  • Support Sales, Finance and Customer Support on the release of new products and programs by conducting relevant due diligence and advising on process development
  • Support customer-facing teams with customer escalations and talking points
  • Provide advice and counsel on laws and regulations that are applicable to day-to-day business processes and strategies
  • Partner with business stakeholders to review and resolve state regulatory matters related to our business licenses directly with the regulator, like state Attorney General Offices
  • Represent the company in government hearings to obtain and maintain our licenses
  • Make final decisions on complex legal problems and determine when a legal matter requires consultation or coordination with government offices, agencies, or departments
  • Draft, review and negotiate as needed legal contracts and hearing documents
What You’ll Bring
  • Juris Doctor with excellent academic credentials and 1-4 years of legal experience at a top tier law firm
  • Admission to California, Texas or DC bar or ability to register as in-house counsel
  • Strong organization, research and analytical skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to efficiently manage multiple tasks and responsibilities in a fast-paced environment
  • A creative problem solver who can develop new ideas and approaches while balancing sound business judgment
  • Proven track record of learning quickly, taking initiative, working proactively and being resourceful

Expected Compensation

$172,000 - $431,640/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits

Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
