Glenfiddich Parent Company Announces New GC Appointment

Isabelle Meyer-Barchechath steps into the role of general counsel at William Grant & Sons, succeeding the retiring Catriona Macritchie.

William Grant & Sons, the prestigious Scottish distillery known for producing acclaimed whisky brands like Glenfiddich and Monkey Shoulder, has confirmed the appointment of a new General Counsel. The family-owned company, which boasts a turnover surpassing £1.7B ($2.1B), is preparing to welcome Isabelle Meyer-Barchechath to lead its legal operations.

Meyer-Barchechath will be leaving her role as the Deputy General Counsel at Kingfisher, a company recognized for its ownership of hardware brands including B&Q and ScrewFix. Her tenure at Kingfisher lasted nearly two years, where she also served as the Group Functions Legal Director.

Before joining Kingfisher, Meyer-Barchechath was the Deputy GC at Just Eat, a prominent figure in the FTSE 100 index of leading UK companies. Her legal expertise extends into the beverage industry, having held positions at Moët Hennessy and Coca-Cola. Meyer-Barchechath began her professional journey at the renowned law firm Baker McKenzie.

Kingfisher had previously filled its GC vacancy with Sapna Dutta, who was recruited from Reckitt, another major British multinational. Dutta's appointment came in the wake of the retirement of Elizabeth Messud last summer.

The outgoing General Counsel of William Grant & Sons, Catriona Macritchie, is set to retire following an impressive career in the legal field of the beverage industry. Macritchie is noted for her significant contributions to Diageo, where she spent over a decade before rejoining William Grant in May 2021. This marks the end of her second stint with the company.

As William Grant & Sons continues to uphold its legacy in the spirits market, the addition of Meyer-Barchechath is poised to reinforce the company's commitment to legal excellence and corporate governance. Her diverse background and experience across various sectors position her as a fitting successor to carry on the legal stewardship of the esteemed whisky producer.
