Aderant to Acquire HerculesAI’s Legal Technology Assets

Aderant has signed an agreement to acquire HerculesAI's legal technology tools, Apollo, Athena, and Verify, bolstering its AI-driven capabilities in the legal sector.

Key points:

  • Aderant will acquire HerculesAI's legal technology assets, including Apollo, Athena, and Verify.
  • The acquisition will add AI-driven time capture, email management, and compliance tools to Aderant’s portfolio.
  • About 20 employees from HerculesAI will join Aderant, although the company’s CEO and team will remain with HerculesAI.
  • The deal strengthens Aderant’s position in legal technology, enhancing its work-to-cash platform and AI capabilities.

Aderant, a major player in the legal technology space, has confirmed a definitive agreement to acquire the legal technology assets of HerculesAI, formerly known as Zero Systems. The acquisition includes three of HerculesAI’s flagship products: Apollo, Athena, and Verify, which are designed to drive automation in time capture, email management, and compliance for law firms.

The move is part of Aderant’s broader strategy to enhance its AI-driven product offerings, particularly in the realm of legal operations. The integration of HerculesAI’s tools into Aderant’s portfolio will allow the company to offer advanced compliance solutions, such as the AI-powered Apollo for time and activity capture, Athena for managing email workflows, and Verify for automating the detection and correction of billing compliance issues. This is expected to deliver increased efficiency and accuracy for law firms seeking to improve their revenue management and operational processes.

Chris Cartrett, President & CEO of Aderant, expressed the strategic significance of the acquisition, highlighting how it enhances the company's ability to automate workflows and achieve "intelligent automation" that will boost profitability for its clients. "This acquisition is a game-changer for our clients," Cartrett said. "It will give law firms unprecedented precision, speed, and confidence in their operations."

Despite the acquisition, HerculesAI’s founder and CEO Alex Babin, along with the rest of the executive team, will not be joining Aderant. They will, however, stay with HerculesAI, which will continue to focus on the insurance and financial services sectors. Approximately 20 employees currently involved with the legal product lines will join Aderant as part of the deal.

Babin also emphasized the strong cultural and strategic alignment between HerculesAI and Aderant, noting that the integration of their technologies would help transform compliance from a bottleneck into a business accelerator. This is seen as a critical enhancement to Aderant's already comprehensive work-to-cash offering.
