The U.S. legal industry lost 5,000 jobs in September as law firms responded to slowing deal flow and shifts in client needs, according to preliminary data released by the U.S. Department of Labor. More here.

PACER users get a refund. The U.S. government has agreed to pay $125 million to settle a class action lawsuit claiming that the judiciary overcharged users of PACER. Class members can expect at least $350 in refunds for PACER charges. More here.

Veteran women attorneys are jettisoning BigLaw in favor of in-house jobs at a higher rate. Through the first nine months of 2022, only 28% of women who left a top 200 US law firm joined another BigLaw firm, according to data from legal consultancy Leopard Solutions. More here.

Clio released its 2022 Legal Trends Report, tracking changes in the way lawyers work. In the 12 months prior to April 2022, nearly one in five lawyers left the law firm they were working for, and 9% reported that they planned to leave in the next 6 months. More here.
