Former Stripe CLO and Corporate Secretary, Patricia Walsh, Joins AIG as EVP & General Counsel

Patricia Walsh Joins AIG as Executive Vice President and General Counsel

American International Group, Inc. (AIG), a prominent global insurance organization, has appointed Patricia (Trish) Walsh as Executive Vice President and General Counsel, effective December 1, 2023.

With a robust background in legal expertise within the financial services sector, Walsh will join AIG's Executive Leadership Team, reporting directly to Peter Zaffino, AIG's Chairman & CEO. Her extensive knowledge of the insurance industry, customer-centric approach, and adept navigation of the financial and regulatory landscape position Walsh to shape AIG's future success.

Walsh's appointment as General Counsel signals a strategic shift in AIG's leadership structure, coinciding with the previous legal counsel's promotion to a Vice Chair position. As AIG continues its pursuit of excellence as a top-performing company, Walsh's expertise will be instrumental in guiding the organization's legal, compliance, and regulatory functions. She will also lead AIG's government affairs efforts, strengthening the company's relationships with key stakeholders and policymakers.

Peter Zaffino expressed his enthusiasm about Walsh's addition to the AIG team, and commended her as a top legal expert in financial services. He highlighted her exceptional knowledge, customer-centric approach, and ability to navigate the dynamic financial and regulatory landscape. Drawing from his experience working closely with Walsh as Chairman of the Corebridge Financial Board of Directors, Zaffino expressed unwavering confidence in her ability to contribute significantly to AIG's goals.

Before joining AIG, Patricia Walsh held key roles at prestigious organizations. She recently served as Chief Legal Officer and Corporate Secretary at Stripe, a leading fintech company, overseeing all legal and regulatory affairs in the complex fintech industry. Prior to that, she was the Executive Vice President and Chief Legal Officer at Voya Financial, a Fortune 500 company, where she played a pivotal role in shaping legal and compliance strategies. Walsh also served as Deputy General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer at Cigna Corp, overseeing legal efforts for U.S. businesses and global compliance. Her journey includes positions at MassMutual Life Insurance Company, where she provided essential legal counsel and supported strategic decision-making as Deputy General Counsel and Chief of Staff to the CEO.

Walsh's impressive educational background significantly contributes to her success in the legal and financial services sectors. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Mount Holyoke College, a Masters in Public Affairs from Princeton University, and a Juris Doctor degree from Yale Law School. Her commitment to excellence and continuous learning equips her with the knowledge and skills necessary to navigate the complexities of the insurance industry and the broader financial landscape.

As Walsh prepares to join AIG, she expresses her honor and pride in becoming a part of an iconic company poised for expansion and global growth. She brings with her a wealth of experience in scaling new companies and finding opportunities to increase enterprise value in established organizations. Walsh acknowledges AIG's leadership team, under the guidance of Peter Zaffino, for their bold vision, mission-driven focus, and commitment to operational excellence. Her enthusiasm for joining AIG reflects her belief in the company's potential to thrive in the ever-evolving insurance industry.
