Roku's Appoints New Senior VP and GC

Roku has announced a strategic addition to its executive team. Louise Pentland, a seasoned professional in the technology realm, is slated to take on the role of Senior VP and General Counsel at the company, starting July 23.

Pentland's transition to Roku marks the culmination of a significant tenure at the Walt Disney Co., where she has been serving as Executive VP and Chief Counsel for the Disney Experiences and Products division. Her responsibilities have spanned a broad spectrum, covering legal and regulatory affairs for an array of operations, from global theme parks and cruise lines to consumer products and e-commerce platforms.

Reporting directly to Roku's founder and CEO Anthony Wood, Pentland is prepared to fill the shoes of Stephen Kay, who will be entering retirement in November after a decade of service. "We are delighted to welcome Louise to Roku’s executive team," expressed Wood. "Her extensive expertise in legal affairs, government relations, and corporate governance will be invaluable as we advance our mission to transform how the world watches TV and connect and enhance the entire TV ecosystem."

Reflecting on her appointment, Pentland shared her enthusiasm: "I’m thrilled to join Roku during such an exciting period and feel privileged to be part of a company at the forefront of the streaming revolution." Her previous experience at PayPal as EVP, Chief Business Affairs and Legal Officer, and her 16-year stint at Nokia, where she ascended to the role of EVP and Chief Legal Officer, have equipped her with a wealth of knowledge and expertise.

In addition to her upcoming role at Roku, Pentland holds positions as a non-executive director at several esteemed organizations, including Experian, Hitachi Ltd., and Pacific Life. Her academic credentials are equally impressive, with a law degree and a postgraduate diploma in legal practice from Northumbria University in England. Pentland's qualifications extend across multiple jurisdictions, with licenses to practice law in the U.S., England, Wales, and Europe.

As Roku continues to navigate the dynamic streaming industry, Pentland's legal acumen and strategic insight are expected to play a pivotal role in steering the company toward its ambitious future goals.
