KPMG Names Matt Miner as General Counsel to Lead Legal, Regulatory & Compliance Efforts

KPMG LLP has announced the appointment of Matt Miner as Vice Chair – Legal, Regulatory & Compliance and General Counsel for the U.S. firm, effective February 28, 2025. In this capacity, Miner will oversee the firm’s legal and compliance functions, serve on its U.S. Management Committee, and act as Secretary to the KPMG U.S. Board of Directors. Additionally, he will take on the role of Head of Legal and Compliance for the Americas Region, contributing to KPMG’s governance across multiple jurisdictions.

Miner joins KPMG from Walmart, where he served as Executive Vice President, Global Chief Ethics and Compliance Officer & Special Counsel. In this role, he led a global team of more than 1,000 associates across 19 markets, driving a culture of ethics, compliance, and risk mitigation at one of the world’s largest companies.

Throughout his distinguished career, Miner has held key leadership roles in government, private practice, and corporate compliance. Prior to Walmart, he was a Partner at Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP, heading the firm’s White Collar Litigation & Government Enforcement Practice in Washington, D.C. His expertise in corporate investigations, regulatory oversight, and compliance program development has positioned him as a trusted advisor in high-stakes legal and governance matters.

Miner also brings extensive public sector experience, having served as Deputy Assistant Attorney General in the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ). In that role, he supervised major divisions within the Criminal Division, including oversight of fraud, healthcare, and foreign corruption cases. He played a pivotal role in developing the 2019 DOJ Evaluation of Corporate Compliance Programs, shaping enforcement policy and corporate compliance expectations.

His tenure at DOJ also included serving as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in Alabama, where he prosecuted complex fraud cases and led high-profile investigations.

KPMG Chair and CEO Paul Knopp emphasized Miner’s leadership and strategic acumen, stating:

“Matt is a leader in his field who will help our firm deliver innovative services for businesses with integrity. Trust is at the heart of our business, and we look forward to Matt’s leadership to help guide our firm in continuing to deliver value for clients.”

In addition to his professional achievements, Miner is actively engaged in academic and business advisory roles. He serves on the Business Advisory Council for the University of Cincinnati’s Carl H. Lindner College of Business and the Board of Advisors for NYU School of Law’s Program on Corporate Compliance and Enforcement.

A graduate of the University of Michigan Law School, Miner also holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Cincinnati.

With KPMG’s continued investment in trusted AI, governance, and compliance innovation, Miner’s expertise will be instrumental in reinforcing the firm’s commitment to ethical leadership, regulatory compliance, and client service excellence.
