Jus Mundi Partners With Stanford Law’s CodeX for Global AI Hackathon Series

Jus Mundi and Stanford’s CodeX launch a global AI hackathon series to advance legal tech innovation in international arbitration and law practice.

Key points:

  • Jus Mundi and Stanford’s CodeX are launching a global AI hackathon series focused on legal innovation.
  • The events aim to develop AI tools for arbitration, legal research, and document analysis.
  • Hackathons will be hosted at Stanford, Cambridge, Singapore Management University, and in Paris.

Jus Mundi, a Paris-based legal tech company specializing in international arbitration research, announced a new partnership Friday with Stanford Law School’s legal technology hub, CodeX, to host a global series of AI-focused legal hackathons. The initiative is designed to accelerate development of AI tools tailored to the legal industry and encourage cross-disciplinary innovation, as reported by Law360.

The first event in the “LLM x Law” hackathon series will take place on April 6 at Stanford University. Subsequent hackathons are scheduled for Cambridge University in June, Singapore Management University in October, and Paris later in the year. Participants will include lawyers, technologists, academics, and students working to incubate AI-based solutions aimed at improving arbitration, legal research, translation, drafting, and document analysis.

“We believe the future of law lies at the intersection of legal expertise and AI-driven innovation,” said Jean-Rémi de Maistre, CEO and co-founder of Jus Mundi. “Our collaboration with CodeX allows us to push the boundaries of AI in law, accelerating R&D and unlocking new possibilities for the legal industry.”

CodeX, operated jointly by Stanford Law School and the university’s Computer Science Department, focuses on the application of computation to legal reasoning. Earlier this year, CodeX also partnered with Davis Wright Tremaine LLP to explore new AI applications in legal practice.

“They [Jus Mundi] represent a growing interest and need for specialized tooling—capable of meeting the needs of unique practices like arbitration,” said Megan Ma, associate director at CodeX. “We look forward to innovating and pushing the boundaries of interdisciplinary collaboration together.”

Founded in 2019, Jus Mundi now serves over 150,000 users globally, including law firms, corporations, government agencies, and academic institutions. The company raised $10 million in Series A funding in 2021 and an additional $22 million in a Series B round last year to support further AI development and international expansion. It operates offices in Paris, New York, and London.

The partnership comes as AI-driven legal tech continues to attract significant investment. In 2024, legal technology companies raised nearly $5 billion, with AI being a dominant area of focus.
