Ironclad Names Former DocuSign CEO Dan Springer as New Chief Executive

Ironclad appoints former DocuSign CEO Dan Springer as its new chief executive, positioning the company for its next phase of AI-driven growth in contract management.

Key points:

  • Dan Springer, former CEO of DocuSign, has been named CEO of Ironclad.
  • Co-founder Jason Boehmig will transition to Executive Chairman, focusing on AI and growth strategies.
  • Ironclad surpasses $150 million ARR, poised for its next phase of AI-powered expansion.

Ironclad, the AI-powered contract lifecycle management (CLM) platform, has announced the appointment of Dan Springer as its new CEO, succeeding co-founder Jason Boehmig, who will transition to Executive Chairman. The leadership change is intended to position Ironclad for accelerated growth as it deepens its investment in artificial intelligence and expands its influence across global markets.

Springer brings more than 30 years of technology leadership experience, most notably as CEO of DocuSign, where he led the company through its 2018 IPO and spearheaded key initiatives like the creation of the Agreement Cloud. Before DocuSign, Springer served as Chairman and CEO of Responsys, overseeing its $1.6 billion sale to Oracle. He currently sits on the boards of UiPath and SmartNews and holds an MBA from Harvard University and an AB from Occidental College.

“It’s humbling to be able to tap Dan to take the baton for the next part of Ironclad’s journey,” said Boehmig, who co-founded Ironclad in 2014. “There is no better person to lead us into the next decade, ensuring that our products keep customers at the forefront of the AI and contracts revolution.”

Bohemig will remain closely involved with Ironclad’s strategic direction, particularly around AI advancements and go-to-market execution. Under his leadership, Ironclad grew rapidly, raising over $333 million from investors such as Accel, Sequoia, BOND, Franklin Templeton, and Y Combinator, and has been recognized as a Leader in the Gartner Magic Quadrant and the Forrester Wave for CLM solutions.

Springer emphasized his strong alignment with Ironclad’s vision, stating, “After getting a closer look under the hood, especially their innovations around AI, I maintain a strong conviction that Ironclad will win the CLM category. Contracts are the most underutilized, but most powerful tool in modern business.”

Ironclad’s platform uses AI to accelerate every step of the contracting process—from creation to negotiation to insights—helping companies unlock business-critical data trapped in legal documents. Its standalone AI product, Jurist, further empowers legal teams by drafting and iterating documents using internal precedent and real-time legal updates.

With revenue accelerating past $150 million in annual recurring revenue (ARR) and a customer base that includes OpenAI, Cisco, and Shell, Ironclad is poised to dominate the next era of contract technology innovation. The company has also been repeatedly recognized as a Best Workplace by Fortune and Fast Company.
