Mary O'Carroll joins Sandstone as advisor

Mary O’Carroll, formerly at Google, Ironclad, and Goodwin, is now advising Sandstone, the platform that lets legal teams deploy AI agents in under 10 minutes for intake, triage, first-pass redlines, and drafting.

Key points:

  • Sandstone, the AI-native "Legal Control Tower" startup, has partnered with LegalEng Consulting Group (LECG), a CLM and legal ops consultancy founded by alumni of contract lifecycle management platform Ironclad.
  • The partnership follows Sandstone's recent appointment of Mary O'Carroll — also a former Ironclad figure — as an advisor, adding a notable web of Ironclad connections alongside Sandstone's existing integration with the platform.
  • Through the deal, LECG will help enterprise clients evaluate and implement Sandstone's platform, which deploys AI agents in under ten minutes to automate intake, triage, first-pass redlines and legal drafting.

Sandstone, which describes itself as a Legal Control Tower, has formed a partnership with LegalEng Consulting Group (LECG), a team focused on contract lifecycle management and legal operations that emerged from Ironclad. The move comes shortly after Sandstone announced that Mary O'Carroll — a well-known legal ops expert and herself a former Ironclad veteran — would join the in-house-focused startup as an advisor. Rounding out the Ironclad thread, Sandstone also maintains a direct product integration with the platform.

Nick Fleisher, CEO of Sandstone, told Artificial Lawyer: "We've been working with LECG for some time, and they truly have a top tier team with best-in-class knowledge of legal ops and tooling for in-house teams. We share many mutual enterprise clients already, and we see this partnership as a way to bring our software and their services to even more." Fleisher described the arrangement as spanning the full client lifecycle — from early exploration of tools and legal ops strategy through to implementation and scaling — while noting that the overlap with O'Carroll's advisory role was "a unique coincidence and not related" to the partnership decision.

LECG is comprised of legal engineers, lawyers and legal operations professionals and has positioned itself as a trusted advisor to legal teams seeking to optimise their operations. Under the partnership, LECG will guide clients through evaluating and implementing Sandstone's platform as part of broader legal operations transformation programmes. Sandstone's platform creates what it calls a unified Legal Control Tower, connecting legal workflows to business context and enabling teams to deploy AI agents in under ten minutes to handle intake, triage, first-pass redlines and drafting from best practices.

Lyndsey Cain, Vice President of Legal Operations Services at LECG, said: "This partnership allows us to bring a truly transformative solution to legal teams, empowering them to operate at a new level of efficiency and strategic impact." For Sandstone, the deal deepens its services footprint at a moment when in-house legal departments are under growing pressure to operationalise AI tooling with external implementation support — not just software procurement.
