Guy Carpenter is seeking a Head of Compliance who will oversee its compliance program in the US and Canada. This position is hybrid and has a requirement of working three days a week in our midtown Manhattan office.

The mission of Guy Carpenter’s Compliance program is to promote a culture in which ethical, lawful, and risk-mindful behavior is encouraged and reinforced. The Compliance team works closely with Legal and the Business to design and implement a compliance framework to prevent, detect and respond to potential violations of law and Company policy. The tools for doing so are policies, procedures, controls, training, monitoring, and management reporting. The Company’s Code of Conduct, The Greater Good , is the foundation of this framework.

The Head of Compliance is responsible for establishing and promoting Guy Carpenter’s compliance strategy in the US and Canada, advising senior management about risk and compliance issues, and managing one compliance professional. The position reports to Guy Carpenter’s North America Chief Legal and Compliance Counsel, and Guy Carpenter’s Global General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer.

We Will Count On You To

  • Establish, promote, and lead Guy Carpenter’s compliance strategy for North America.
  • Foster an environment where colleagues feel comfortable speaking up and raising concerns.
  • Advise senior leadership on significant risk and compliance issues, maintaining a perspective that is both independent and attuned to the commercial objectives of the business.
  • Work with Guy Carpenter’s Head of Monitoring and Professional Standards to monitor adherence to the North America compliance program.
  • Develop and deliver a compliance annual training program focused on Guy Carpenter North America’s top risks.
  • Find innovative ways to communicate compliance issues and regulatory developments to Guy Carpenter North America colleagues.
  • Stay abreast of regulatory developments that impact the insurance and reinsurance industries; identify implications, and propose suitable and pragmatic solutions that align to strategic business plans.
  • Inspire, develop, and advance the Guy Carpenter North America compliance team, with an emphasis on inclusion and diversity, empathy, and resilience.
  • Collaborate effectively with HR, Finance, and Operations colleagues to implement process change that promote compliance with applicable law.
  • Represent Guy Carpenter North America in interactions with regulators and in industry associations and events, such as National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) meetings and with the Reinsurance Association of America (RAA).
  • Develop working relationships with key regulatory authorities built on a commitment to transparency.
  • Collaborate with Legal and Compliance professionals from the various Marsh McLennan businesses on cross business initiatives, while representing Guy Carpenter North America’s interests.

What You'll Need To Have

  • A bachelor’s degree
  • A minimum of 7 years of relevant legal, compliance and/or operational experience

  • Excellent communication skills: the ability to produce accurate, clear and persuasive communications, both oral and written, enhanced by a willingness to experiment with novel ways of engaging with colleagues.

Marsh McLennan is committed to hybrid work, which includes the flexibility of working remotely and the collaboration, connections, and professional development benefits of working together in the office. All Marsh McLennan colleagues are expected to be in their local office or working onsite with clients at least three days per week. Office-based teams will identify at least one “anchor day” per week on which their full team will be together in person.

The applicable base salary range for this role is $112,100 to $224,300.

The base pay offered will be determined on factors such as experience, skills, training, location, certifications, education, and any applicable minimum wage requirements. Decisions will be determined on a case-by-case basis. In addition to the base salary, this position may be eligible for performance-based incentives.
